Good work!  Found it on that same tracker myself, then I saw this thread.

I don't like the promotion of leaks like that, it really hurts the band.

I'm not going to listen to it until I buy it.

That said, I found a couple of legal/official mp3's from the album which I posted http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9158&PN=2 - here , if anybody wants to hear those without spoiling the entire thing for themselves. http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=9158&PN=2 -

I'm going to be buying it when it comes out at the end of August.

Ty, those aren't legal.  People who post those on the official Opeth forums get banned, and yes, I know one of 'em is from the street team's site.

I like the idea of using swf (Flash) - it's tricky to convert that to mp3.

Well, I found the album on a P2P network and so far I'm not impressed. I'm a huge Opeth fan though... I guess it'll need many more listens.

Somehow this sounds way more "american" than previous albums. I find that it incorporates too many elements from ProgMetal bands like DT... meh

That's odd... I know the Grand Conjuration one is legal, seeing as it's right on Roadrunner's site and can be accessed by anybody. I wasn't so sure about the other one, but I guess Opeth doesn't want us listening to it. It's strange that Roadrunner would put them up, but I guess this is probably similar to the Octavarium samples incident where the record label released the material without the band's consent.

No matter. Ghost Reveries is only a month away, anyways .

I was thinking the exact same thing based on the two songs I've heard. I can't figure out exactly what it is - I think it's mostly the production, and the different vocal styles Mike uses, that make it sound that way.

if i want to listen to an album that sounds like Opeth's old stuff... i'll listen to Opeth's old stuff. i'm about half-way through my first listen of the album, and i like the slightly different sound. isn't that what prog is all about? a band progressing it's style and incorporating loads of different sounds?

The Grand Conjuration one is legal, you're right.  I thought it was the initial radio leak MP3; Roadrunner begrudgingly put the Opeth one up as a legitimate alternative.  The Ghost Of Perdition track, though, is supposed to be for street team use only.

Right now, the Opeth forums have actually been shut down because of the various leaks.

I'll need a few more listens to make up my mind, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the lack of overlong plodding riffs and that self-parodical, formulaic approach to 'quiet interludes'. There's less of THAT atmosphere, but still...

Lovely keys. Mellotron samples abound!

The real problem about those pre-release leaks is: Why the hell does it take 2 months to release the album? I'm pretty sure that the album art, booklet etc. can be done simultaneously to recording the album, or at least between recording and mixing. It should only take 2-4 weeks to print the CDs and ship them to the stores ... and they don't need to send promo copies to magazines for reviews. They're OPETH ...

Hahahahah, even Opeth needs promo copies.

Bah! They should do it like Dream Theater and invite the journalists for a listening session (with preceding stripsearch) ...

I love the new sound of the album.  They are finally comfortable to write music in major some now.

It's all about when the label feels it's best to release the album. If they just released every album that was finished at the very second it was completed they'd have an uneven release schedule that would go through droughts every so often, but if they intersperse all their releases evenly, they'll have a good amount of stuff to put out year round.

That said... I wish it was coming out sooner .

Ok, I see your point. But they could schedule that delay to be between recording and mixing ...

This is Roadrunner Records we're talking about here, the label who's signed such brilliant artists as Cradle of Filth, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, and - their crowning achievenent - Nickelback.

In other words, I would never expect them to be reasonable .

Opeth is my favorite band...I've heard two new songs, and that is it till' August 30th when I buy it.  From what I've heard so far, this album looks to be their most diverse.  and I'm really glad.  I love how Opeth does something new with each release, in this case, many things new.  Can't make another album that sounds like my arms, still life, bwp...Deliverance was the result of them taking the same path again and it wasn't as good.  However the album's Morbid Angel riffage blew me away.  I'm all for bands progressing and keeping things fresh.  Can't just play the same style forever it eventually gets generic and uninspired.

Well duh, but if the band does not progress in a way that pleases my taste, I'm not going to praise them solely for progressing.
