Violinist Steve Kindler should be known to fans of the Mahavishnu Orchestra as he toured with the band back in the 70's and played on "visions of an Emerald Beyond". Later, he played with Jan Hammer and Jeff Beck during the heyday of their solo careers. Three different violinist played alongside John McLaughlin back then. Steve is undoubtedly the least known of the three. Maybe because Steve is from Portland, OR where I live, I have a special interest in him, but its also because his solo album "Paradise Lost" is a magnificent and epic spacy violin journey. Few albums I have ever owned can take me to the outer edges like this one. Great for falling into a blissful sleep to....:) And so........I noticed that he is not listed as an artist here. Here is a link to a bio - http://www.earthwireband.com/about/about_steve/about_steve.html but I can't dig up much in the way of music I can listen to. Is anyone else a fan of Steve and maybe knows more of his work? I'm interested in particular in more solo albums like "Paradise Lost"......and does anyone else think he deserves listing here? And Spotify does have "Portal of Hunab-ku" which is a good intro to the music of "paradise Lost". This is spacy, psychedelic electric violin - I wish there was more music like this out there.. aldri7

| He's the least known of the Mahavishnu Orchestra violinist because he played in the backup string section and rarely (if ever) steped up front. That said they were a good string section which I was lucky enough to see several times. |

He is probably better known for his work with Jan Hammer - at least I remember his image on one of his album.... Aldri7

I've got one Kindler solo album, but it's new age.  Of course familiar with his work with Jan Hammer. ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Yeah, since he was classically trained, its hard to quess what type of solo work he would do. Perhaps none of it is really suitable for this website. I don't know. I think that he has done a variety of projects spanning many genres. As I said above, "Paradise Lost" is spacy electric violin - its not really jazz nor rock nor prog. But it is instrumental and I did detect some influences from "The First Seven Days" album by Jan Hammer. So there is some fusion in his veins from the work that he did in the 70's. aldri7
