I'm going for a top 20 because I heard so many good and great albums this year that a top 10 would not show what I liked. (only studio releases)

--- 5* albums---
1- Headspace - I Am Anonymous
2- Silhouette - Across The Rubicon
3- Nine Stones Close - One Eye on the Sunrise

--- 4.5* albums
4- Enochian Theory - Life...And All It Entails
5- Galahad - Beyond the Realms of Euphoria
6- Anathema - Weather Systems
7- Big Big Train - English Electric (Part 1)
8- Kompendium - Beneath The Waves
9- Sunchild - Isolation

---4* albums
10- Gazpacho - March of Ghosts
11- Mystery - The World is a Game
12- Flower Kings - Banks of Eden
13- Marillion - Sounds That Can't be Made
14- Threshold - March of Progress
15- IOEarth - Moments
16- 3RDegree - The Long Division
17- Neal Morse - Momentum
18- Affector - Harmagedon
19- Rush - Clockwork Angels
20- Galahad - Battle Scars

I have one 5* release not mentioned since it's not a full album but an EP: Moon Safari - Lovers End pt III: Skelleftea Symphony which would easily have made the top 5 if it was a full album. Also Phideaux' giveaway album could make the top 10...

The nine albums listed below are literally the only 2012 releases that I listened to this year.  So, the top 4 listed I really like and are in order and after that, I could take or leave the rest (hence the gap).

1. Astra - The Black Chord
2. Rush - Clockwork Angels
3. Beardfish - The Void
4. Anglagard - http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=38027" rel="nofollow - )

And that's it.  I'm sure I'm missing out on tons of great releases this year, but I just haven't gotten around to listening to them.  I guess I was too busy filling out my "old prog collection".

For my non-prog release favorites for this year, just a couple:

Soundgarden - King Animal
Deftones - Koi No Yokan

Well it's averages so for it's always going to have a lower score than the people who think it's 5 stars.

I personally think one doth protest too much. Try being an Avant fan here. I don't see more than the odd posts mentioning 1 or 2 of my top 30. Of my first three picks they have 2 ratings, 31 ratings & aren't on the site yet!!

Didn't buy nearly enough Prog last year so only those that were purchased are listed ... and that's the only reason Rush is on there!

01 - Anglagard - Viljans Oga
02 - Hawkwind - Onward
03 - Storm Corrosion- Storm Corrosion
04 - Echolyn - Echolyn
05 - Flower Kings - Banks Of Eden
06 - Astra - The Black Chord
07 - Steve Hackett - Genesis Revisited II
09 - Can - The Lost Tapes (not heard this enough yet but its better than Rush)
08 - Rush - Clockwork Angels

How about Top 3 (and only counting the albums that we actually bought):
  • Viljans Öga
  • Get All You Deserve (Wilson redeemed himself)
  • Beneath the Waves (stretching it a little, 'cause it's not really "prog prog")
Perhaps - perhaps, the most noticeable debut.
Clockwork Angels - the most dignified swan song?

Top 3 in the Meh, Bleh and Blah subcategory:
  • Storm Corrosion
  • Les Voyages de l'Ame
  • Rewotower
Some notable additions in the 2012 Non-"Prog" category:

Nope.  I really enjoy that album.  Way more than your top album which placed at the bottom of my list for the year.

I haven't heard their new album but I used to listen to the quite often when I joined here. Today, not so much. Is it any different?
