Oh man, what a dilemna!
`Angels Egg' was the first Gong album I ever heard, pretty soon after I first started getting into prog, and it was such a wild and varied album...and Hawkwind's `Hall of the Mountain Grill' was the first Hawkwind album I bought and I really loved it. It was the only Hawkwind album I had for a couple of years, I played it over and over! But I'm going for that ungodly and vile dark beast Kohntarkosz, which I think I recently mentioned as sounding like `A bunch of aliens conducting a seance'! 
I love how unnerving some of those hissing choral vocal moments get on the first side!

| I'm not much of a Magma listener, and find some of their stuff irritating, but "Kohntarkosz" is an absolute monster, and by far my favorite of theirs. I have to choose it despite a few real worthy albums here. |

I have 6 of these.  Nektar's Tab in the Ocean if my favorite from this group. I also like the Hawkwind, the Guru Guru, and Leg End from Henry Cow. Magma and Gong are both OK too.-------------

Another vote for Heldon's masterpiece Stand By. Man I love that album to pieces!
Remember when I first started listening to it, I was living on the outskirts of Copenhagen besides a big forest called Hareskoven(The Hare Forest). Walking amongst the huge trees down by the lake all to myself with Bolero playing in my ears had an almost spiritual effect on yours truly - even making me caress the bark of the trees with my fingers as I passed them. I know..... sounds like something out of a hippie Barbra Cartland novel, but to me it was real, and still is. I tried making the same voyage last time I went there on visit to see my friends of old, and the magic was still there in full force. Ever since I can remember, we used to go down to the lake, down besides an ancient ruin, where this lonely tree spread its branches in all kinds of scary images. We called it Drømmetræet(Tree of Dreams), as it magically changed with the seasons and for some reason always felt alive. Like really alive. Funny thing is, that now when I am older, I always go to see it with Heldon's Stand By in my ears - and a huge smile. Ah, close call between Magma and Gong. Both my favourite albums from each band, so a toughie for sure. Magma it is. And on a sidenote, I've actually heard most off the albums on the list for a change.

Yeah. Live I like the title track alot, but for some reason the studio version doesn't get past good for me (and the other two tracks are fine but nothing spetacular). And Leg End, Unrest, and Western Culture have all occupied by favorite HC album spot.  Then I heard that the mix they released for that pressing was really terrible and it's since been fixed. I've still never heard the "fixed" version. If it's anything like Unrest, I should definitely get off on it.Thanks to regrettable purgings like that, I've pretty much vowed to never get rid of any of my albums. Well i can relate as i've gotten rid of some(not many) over the years and have since realized that buying stuff twice doesn't make a lot of sense. Because our tastes do change and what i might not be too into today might be something i cherish 5 years from now.
