Hello Progsters
I discovered and have visted Prog Archives for about 5 or 6 years, typically every week or so. I finally decided to jump in. This site amazes me as people around the world have this same interest as me. I feel I know some of you since I rely on your reviews to see if I want to invest in a new band or an album (if album is the correct term anymore...).
A little about my interests, I am mostly Symphonic and Psychedelic Progressive, but do dabble in the Jazz Rock/Fusion also. I began listening to the progressive genre in the early 70s, went into the Electronic Progessive (New Age-actually did not like that term as it really did not fit) in the late 80s. I totally left it all in the 90s and went into a lot of Classical music. Then in late 90s to 2000s I had a hunger again to come back home to Prog. OK, enough of that.

I think album is, and has always been, the correct term. A collection of musical selections. Welcome! Utopia is one of my VERY favorites. If you're dabbling into jazz rock, try out Return To Forever's Romantic Warrior they have other fantastic albums, but this is their best. If you like Pink Floyd, Pulsar's The Strands Of The Future is great. If you like Yes, England's Garden Shed is a perfect rip-off. |

Hi and welcome! There are some fine albums in your list, and based on that list I'd suggest checking out Beardfish and maybe Sky Architect's 2011 album, A Dying Man's Hymn.

I generally will point anyone with a taste for late 70's Floyd in the direction of http://phideaux.bandcamp.com/album/doomsday-afternoon" rel="nofollow - Phideaux . Just in case they haven't already encountered that guy ;-) And if Floyd and psych both are to your tastes, UK act The Future Kings of England is generally worth to check out too. Yes, the Utopia LP has been in my possession through just about every media they have made, vinyl, 8 track, cassette, CD, & MP3 and whatever the next listening method will be. Also, I need to re-visit Romantic Warrior as all that I have in my collection is a "best of" from Return to Forever and it has been a while.
To Irrelevant, my avatar is from a childhood and current hero...I am not one to take my self too seriously, by the way nice bowtie!
To Windhawk and the others (sorry, brain RAM failure on all the names) who recommended stuff, thanks! Phideux was not on the radar as for some reason I did not associate the music to be that style but will check it out. The Nordagust track peaked my interest and did have that dark feel to it. -------------
