I haven't gotten much into Soft Machine but I really like 5uu's... Hunger's Teeth is the one to go with IMHO, above and beyond the rest. Next up would be Abandonship, also a fantastic album.

Also check out U Totem, a collaboration between members of 5uu's and Motor Totemist Guild. The self-titled U Totem is imho better than anything either band did on their own.

If youare into Jazz-rock fusion , you might want to check out Third and Six of Soft machine and later on on Bundles and Softs.

Third is considered a masterpiece of Canterbury.
