Topic: I wish to whine
Posted By: I Love Internet
Subject: I wish to whine

I am very unhappy. The reason I talk about it here, is that I might get more sympthy from the strangers reading my post here, than from my facebook frends. Shocked

So what is it that Iīm unhappy about? Well basicly it all comes down to the fact that, I have an unsatisfying life. Most of my unhappiness comes from not having enough friends. Also the few friends that I have, share very few intrests with me. I have nobody that I could visit to hear some new music, or even talk about music we both like. My girlfriend listens to quite a few prog bands with me, but she is not interested in talking about the music.

School is another big problem. Last fall I started to study to become a lab rat. The school brings a little bit too much work for me. And the stuff I have to do is all quite hard for me. Im not very experienced in studying/reading, which is causinga lot of trouble. Only good thing about the school is that there I get to meet people.

What troubles me right now, is the fact that my head feels like such a mess that I canīt even listen to music. Dead
And the fact that yesterday I went to the dentist and it didnīt help my toothache at allAngry

On top of those things there are always some little things that piss me off. Like Valentineīs DayDead

I canīt help, but feel embarrased of my username here, itīs so amazingly cheesy, even though itīs accurate. I do really love the Internet.

I think that will do for now. Whining is always fun.

Do something else then. Make new friends or learn to enjoy being alone. Maybe try getting some more vitamin D if you're depressed.

I live in a pretty small town. Itīs not very easy to make new friends here. I have tried. And during the last month I have been taking multivitamins. Also I have been depressed for years(not sure how many). I think it would be a lot more helpful of you to send a gun than to give such blatant and obvious advice. Make new friends?Dead What the kind of an advice is that?

Sorry about the American English. I watch too many American TV series. I prefer  mind numbing series over intellectual ones. I suppose I could change my username... I would just have to figure out one. Iīm not very good at picking names.

Coming to this site does cheer me up quite often. This place is truly great fun, but I sometimes miss real life interaction with interesting people, which I have yet to find from my town.

It is difficult to give advice. You live in Finland. It's a small place you live in. It is impossible for you to meet people of like minded interests unless you move to a city. Otherwise you will obviously have to find some other way to be happy.

Sorry.

Do a poll to find out? I just go on some of the comments posted. I don't care enough to make an issue of it, though.

We'd probably end up with some pretty diverse neighborhoods, something like in Michael Marshall Smith's novel Only Forward...different neighborhoods for different interests, walls built around them, etc.  I don't think I'd want to live in the Shred neighborhood, though...probably the ZART neighborhood, though even that could be pretty scary. I'm the same way. I have a very small circle of very close friends, most of them i;ve known since age 6.
We will always enjoy our company, but i'm pretty much the "music nerd". I lack a lot of similarities with them, and it seems they tend to drift away sometimes.

I enjoy being alone, but it wears down you eventually.

Off topic, but I had two unlikely prog experiences at work today..

1) I was having a coffee with an IT support guy in the cafeteria today, and Mike & the Mechanics came on the radio (Living Years) He rolled his eyes and said, when you think of all the great music Genesis made, all you ever hear on the radio is the drek that the individual members made. A bit harsh, I thought, but it did launch us into a discussion about Genesis and prog rock. Interestingly he said he really liked Pendragon and Marillion, but had never heard the term 'neo-prog'

2) Roughly an hour later, I took a package over to our shipping dept, and the packing room guy - again, who I'd known for years - was blasting out 'Seconds Out' on the stereo.

A good day for prog rock at my work place. Mind you, it is crawling with nerdy scientists...

Anyway..back on topic..slightly..it goes to show there are those out there, who appreciate our music. Seek and ye shall find.

There's nothing wrong with wanting more for yourself, but 'always' wanting more, could mean that you're never happy.

You need to look at the reasons why you always want more.

True fulfillmenmt may never be within your grasp, if you are pre-disposed to never allowing it to be. You may find that you are looking for something that doesn't exist, and if that is the case, the earlier in your life you realise this, and accept it, the more time you will have to appreciate what you do have.

In any case, I wish you happiness.

Edited with less potentially offensive language..

Yes, that is probably true.

As for sports, I used to do lots of sports, but now I find it hard to find the motivation and the energy.(Yes I know doing some sports would give me plenty of energy) I didnīt really write about my problems here to get answers. I just felt like I could use someone to talk to... Maybe get some sympathy...

Also I used to play the guitar, I played with varying frequency for over 6 years, but then I just got tired of it, because I couldnīt make myself practice enough to become as good as I wanted to be. In the last 2 years when I played, I think I didnīt make any progress.

Iīm currently kind of stuck in a vicious circle with my thoughts and routines.

Didn't read the whole thread, just responding to the OP.   If you are still in school, then you are far too unhappy for someone of your age, especially if you have a normal life in every other way (as in no domestic issues or poverty).  Get out there, play some games or sports and connect with people.   One day you are probably going to realize you cannot solve the world's problems so it's better not to get stuck feeling unhappy with the way things are.  Enjoy every new day that you wake up to...it's not hard.

When I was in school, I was a severe asthmatic and the steroids would make me cranky and moody.  And because I was this bookworm, 'friends' would not miss too many opportunities to taunt me when I fared awkwardly at games.  But looking back, those were the most memorable moments of my childhood, for all the quibbling and quarreling and bullying that used to happen.
