Hi everyone and Merry Christmas!  My name is Jacob; I've been visiting this site for months now and have loved it but haven't got around to joining until now.  Some of my favorite prog bands are Rush, Yes, Maudlin of the Well, At Sea (not on this site), Iona, Genesis, Magma, and Dream Theater (I discovered most of these bands on this site).  I also listen to blues, classic rock and some jazz and classical music.  I'm glad to have a site like this where I can converse with like-minded people and discover new bands and musical styles.

At Sea is a one-man project by teen prodigy Curran Mcquade, a composer and multi-instrumentalist.  His first two albums aren't prog (they're more indie-rock type stuff) but in my opinion, his latest two albums, "Reflections on Teun Hocks" and "Distortion" fall under the category of progressive rock (eclectic prog, maybe).  The latter album includes a 20 minute song called "Alone" which I think is absolutely brilliant (it's very repetitive, though).  All of his albums are available for free download on bandcamp.  I plan to officially suggest him soon and when I do I'll post some links.  If you search "At Sea Curran Mcquade" on google, though, you should come up with his bandcamp page where you can stream and download his music.

I know and enjoy most of those bands, though I still need to check out VdGG and Hawkwind.  If Peter Hammil is as good a singer as he's been reported to be, I think I'll really enjoy VdGG.

Ello Jacob!

Welcome to Prog Archives, i hope you continue to post here!

Pertaining to Hammill, he is indeed a great singer - but his voice is very dramatic and polarizing to the masses. You either love it, or hate it.

I'd start with Van der Graaf Generator's He to He Who Am The Only One. Thumbs Up

I just listened to Undercover Man from Godbluff; great stuff!  The chords and textures of the music remind me of Genesis, plus I find Hammil somewhat similar to Gabriel in how he uses his voice (more emotionally than theatrically oriented, though).  I'll have to listen to some more!

Thanks for all the replies/welcomes, btw.

Godbluff is a great place to start for VdGG!
