My choice is Flower Kings-Stardust We Are. The Stardust epic and the recurrence of that musical theme as well as some great mini prog epics. 'tis a bit long, though ;)

I have to consider this for a while as its not a decade I am fond of... I do have a few faves from the 90s though.

Not that familiar with the decade for symph, my favorite is probably Anglagard - Hybris.

I hate Stardust We Are, a very big let down after strong releases in Back in the World of Adventure and Retropolis.
Anyaway, I'd say one of the Anglagard albums or maybe Disciplines Unfolded Like Staircase.

^Yeah that was the first album I thought of too. Discipline´s new one I haven´t heard yet though, but I´m looking forward to it.

Oh and I almost forgot!!! Although it´s listed here under Heavy Prog - I consider Morte Macabre´s Symphonic Holocaust to be one of the high points of the symphonic genre in the 90s. Brilliant stuff!

Marillion's "Brave" for me. Simply one of the best concept albums ever. Dark, moving, wonderful stuff.

Symphonic prog wasn't particularly happening in the '90's. I just browsed the category and I'm going with Discipline Unfolded Like Staircase. One that I didn't get until about a decade after it came out. Stardust We Are is in the same category for me except it didn't really wow me like Staircase.

Spock's Beard-The Light
Porcupine Tree-The Sky Moves Sideways
I need to give Discipline another listen.

Not anything by Spock's Beard, Flower Kings or any related projects; that much is for damned sure

^Totally.
Probably Angalgard's Hybris for me too. Although I don't know much 90's
Symphonic because I think the sub-genre largely ran its course in the
70's.

Camel's Rajaz comes to mind. Though i'm not into modern symph too much.

Another vote to Hybris... 2000's has not bring anything close to that.
Posted By: infocat
Date Posted: December 24 2011 at 20:36
Top 5 maybe?
Hybris
Unfolded Like Staircase
as the world (echolyn)
Rajaz (Camel)
Merlin (Halloween)

Constantly amazes me that this gem gets overlooked

I found very little outstanding Symph from the 90's. When taking all things prog into consideration, this is my favorite.

Brave is a superlative album, but hardly symphonic.
I think Rajaz would probably be my favourite of the decade.

and you have the Moon Safari album cover as your avatar. That album goes further into the "cheese" than most TFK works do.
There are a lot of TFK fans on this site, but in the last few years, the TFK haters have come out of the wood-work. Probably got bored hatin' on Dream Theater.

I'm just saying... If you like Moon Safari, I don't know how you don't like The Flower Kings
cause they're a mess of a band that pumps out double CDs with 20 minute songs by the truckload. every album is like Tales From Topographic Oceans. Plus I find Moon Safari is cheesy in a hyper-melodic power-pop sort of way, whereas TFK just ends up sounding like adult contemporary and christian rock sometimes

I know that Yes with Trevor Rabin is generally looked down upon on this site, but it's not Rabin's fault he replaced Steve Howe. The "Endless Dream", from the 1994 "Talk" album is a worthy 90's prog masterpiece. Take a listen and decide.

First I want to say that I consider Neo Prog and Symphonic Prog to be largely overlapping. Having said that my best symphonic album of the '90 is IQ - Subterranea

Yeah, I personally find the distinction between Symphonic and "neo-prog" to be rather pointless... I do wonder if the so-called neo-prog bands would get less hate if only we moved them all to the Symphonic category!

I'm quite sure of this, since some people might start to listen to them instead of having this blind prejudice that all neo is derivative and simple. Here in the Netherlands we call everything in the symphonic and neo catagories "Symfonische Rock" and the distinction is not made.
