Anyone remember a double LP from he mid - late 70's which contained tracks by Virgin Record artists not available elsewhere? My memory reminds me of a few tracks - Pentagrammaspin (Gong), Superman (Tom Newman), Don Alfonso (Mike Oldfield), Go & Sit Upon the Grass (Ivor Cutler). Still have some of these on appallingly messy cassette. Is the album available as a CD?

I think that this sampler was called 'V', and to the best of my knowledge isn't on CD. I think there were a number of tracks on that not available elsewhere- including a Beefheart live track, I think I read somewhere.

The majority of 70's samplers are unavailble on CD, although that is starting to change. At the time of their release they were intended to promote the albusm by the bands who were on them, and thus the samplers sold very cheaply.

Re-issuing them now would be primarily for nostaligic reasons, and the demand would be limited. There may also be contractual issues to be sorted out, as the bands may have moved labels, their back catalogue may have been sold, etc.
