I'm not their biggest fan no doubt but my respect is huge. I owe almost half of their albums so I can't judge truly fair here but I'm pretty convinced I owe the better half of their discography. In the end I'm not convinced which is actually their very best. I love Brave new World, will probably vote for Somewhere in Time (my introduction to the band) but their "penultimate" release A Matter of Life and Death is possibly their most consistent. So it's tough and that's why I'm curious what the result of this poll will be. Good Luck !

Iron Maiden hardly has a best album. Being a big fan of the band since age 14 I've never come across such a thing. I voted for Fear of the Dark, because this brilliant album is often overlooked.

This is actually very difficult!
I voted `Killers', because I love the first two albums, they're both kind of ignored because of not having Dickinson on them. But the material on both is top-notch. By the way, the version of `Killers' I have doesn't have that cover of `Women In Uniform', thank goodness! :)
Having said that, I love most of the rest of the albums, `Seventh Son' or `Piece Of Mind' nearly got my vote. The problem with almost all the Maiden albums is they all feauture a couple of throwaway/filler tracks.
The only thing I can say for sure is that I think `Number Of The Beast' is one of their poorest, I can't work out why it's considered their `defining' moment. `Piece Of Mind' right after it has better production, better playing, better material, it's superior in every way! Actually, I'd take almost any of their other albums over `Beast'.
But not you `Virtual XI'!

I am a huge fan of Maiden so picking a favorite can be hard. It's a tie between Powerslave and Seventh Son but in a pinch I'll say Powerslave. There are no weak tracks on the album and to me it's the peak of their "classic" period, which I am particularly fond of.

For me it was a touch choice between Dance of Death, A Matter of Life and Death, and Somewhere in Time, but I went with Dance of Death in the end.

So many great albums by them, but i wish they experimented with their sound more. I wont vote because all my favorites are equal.

As others have said, they have no albums where every track is great, but I'll choose Piece of Mind for "Where Eagles Dare" "Revelations" "Flight of Icarus" "Still Life" "To Tame a Land"
Especially those last two; absolute favorites.
I'm also a pretty big fan of A Matter of Life and Death, of their recent ones.
Not sure what to think of the guy who voted for Fear of the Dark.

I've watched Maiden a couple of times but I can't say i'm a big fan. I prefer the first 2 or 3 albums so i've gone for Killers from this list. As a footnote, my band In For The Kill (Budgie tribute) supported an Iron Maiden tribute band this year (Iron On Maiden), and they had Iron Maiden original guitarist Dennis Stratton playing with them for half of their set. He really is a nice, genuine bloke.

they never manged better than the debut album IMHO After that, Martin Birch deep-purplized Maiden's sound.... (check out Killers after listening to the debut)

Major fan here. The period from "Piece Of Mind" to "Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son" is my favourite with the album "Brave New World" being close behind. "Piece Of Mind" is my pick.

Number of the Beast. It was one of the first metal albums I've heard, still my favorite. They haven't aged well with me to be honest. Loved them back in high school, not so much anymore.

This.....
I have been a huge fan since about 1982.....first saw them live in summer 1983, and several times since. I do enjoy AMoLaD though.......but Powerslave for me. That tour was historic! I'm so glad I saw it.....

Somewhere in Time these days.
I really like Brave New World and AMOLAD, but can't stomach Dance of Death, except for Pashendale.
As for their last album, the more I was listening to it, the more bored I got so I stopped listening to it.
I also think that X factor was quite good.

It's hard to say, seeing as they're one of the greatest bands that ever lived, but if I had to choose one it would be 'A Matter of Life and Death'.

| I agree, great return to form. Though it still retains some of the 90's habits (see start and end the song in the same harmony )

I'll withhold voting, but Seventh Son was the first Maiden album I got really into a few years ago, and I think it might be their strongest with only one weakish track (The Prophesy), but I think The Number of the Beast and Powerslave are very near behind. After that I'd probably put The Final Frontier (remarkably good) and Somewhere in Time.

The Prophecy weak? That's a first. Usually, people have a problem with Can I Play with Madness when it comes to the so called weak song of SSOTSS. I don't have a problem with either song.
I fail to see what is so great about IM's last album.

Oh, I do. A lot in fact. Isle of Avalon might be my favorite Iron Maiden song. Definitely in the top 5.
This possible is impossible. I could pick any one of Number of the Beast, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, Seventh Son, Brave New World, or the Final Frontier.
I'll think about it.

Well I can't really convince you, but I think it is. Only problem is the songs are generally too long. If most of the 9 minute songs were 6-7 minutes that would be better. And I'm not the biggest fan of Mother of Mercy and The Man Who Would Be King, but other than that I love em.

Tough call for me, but I went with Seventh Son. Infinite Dreams is probably my fave here, followed by Seventh Son. Only a couple weak tracks on this album. Piece of Mind would be my second choice. I severely overplayed Piece of Mind and Powerslave in my youth so these have less overall appeal than they used to. that said, I've never gotten tired of Revelations and Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
------------- More heavy prog, please!

Number of the beast.
Always enjoyed it more than any other Maiden album. Bruces vocals were best on that album too, in my opinion. It was a very screamy album, but on the albums that followed he warbled too much. I thought at times he was about to start yodelling.
Piece of Mind and Powerslave had great moments too. The first two albums were good when they came out, but Dianno's vocals were no match for Bruce. I lost interest in Maiden after Somewhere in Time.
------------- Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

They have many good ones. Killers is the album I return to most often, so that ones gets my vote. The Number of the Beast, Powerslave and Somewhere in Time are close joint seconds though.

Voted for the cliché answer of Powerslave, maybe because that is the one I heard first? I'm kind of surprised that one is leading and not Seventh Son since I imagine that would appeal the most to progressive rock fans out of their classic albums.

toss up between NOTB, Powerslave, and 7th Son for me... those 3 albums are definitely my favs. I can't choose one. I liked No Prayer For The Dying quite a lot, but didn't like Fear Of The Dark. the blaze bailey albums were poor imo, even though I loved Blaze's other band Wolfsbane. the albums since Bruce returned don't do it for me, although Brave New World is okay. find the rest draggy and boring. the latest Book Of Souls is hard to even listen to...

Easy for me. Somewhere in Time as I was still very much into heavy rock when it came out (I was 17) and although I had already started on the journey to progressive rock, I still had one foot in the heavy rock camp. Plus it really felt that there were trying to do something new at the time. Latest Results......... West Ham 7 Arsenal 3

Every Maiden album offers something new, whilst being 'business as usual' - at least they keep it fresh. They've always had their PROG influences, now, in the new millennium, they have virtually become Prog-Metal. I'm loving The Book Of Souls. Voted for the first. One of those great debut albums. But I suppose the most mature effort is Powerslave; Caveat; I don't know all the albums. I just compare the tight powerful hard rock of the Di Anno years with the extended epic works that define Powerslave and Piece Of Mind.
Never quite got behind the press push of Number Of The Beast. Thought that was a bit of a hype but I do think Hallowed be Thy Name is a good indication of things to come.
The Final Frontier I think would be a good album for prog rock fans though.
