Uh, dunno if this has been done anywhere (I did a search and found nothing) but basically people can post any new cd's they've purchased here. And discuss them.

Today I got Ugly Kid Joes "Motel California". £2.25 on Ebay.

Today I bought:

Winds - The Imaginary Direction Of Time: Marvellous.

Psychotic Waltz: Into The Everflow / Bleeding: Very nice ... but that's the kind of music that needs a week or two to sink in.

Nile: Annihilation Of The Wicked: This is progressive Death Metal of the brutal kind ... but not prog.

Today I bought Rush - Moving Pictures. Not sure if I am into Rush, but for a fiver I thought 'Why not?'

Also had delivered 3 Arena CDs - Pride, Songs from the Lion's Cage and Cry. Not going to open them until Sunday when the wife and kids are at a Meatloaf concert and I can listen in peace with a couple of drinks and the crockery taped down. Got to have something to look forward to!

Now that I've listened to it all the way through: Pretty much the same as their previous albums, the production is abit better though, and it seems better balanced.

King Crimson-Power to Believe- Unsure about some of the electric drums, but the compositions are, at their best, a fine bridge between Red and Discipline.
Al Stewert-Year of the Cat-Excellent symphonic pop in the Alan Parsons Project mold, but with more interesting lyrics.
Jethro Tull-Heavy Horse-I love 70s Tull, and this one seems to live up to the quality of their better work.
William Shatner-The Transformed Man- If none of you have ever heard his version of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, you are missing out on one of the funniest things in the universe.

Today I listened to Versailles "La Cathedrale du temps".A fine album in the french theatrical/symphonic style akin to Ange and Mona Lisa. Not thier best effort,it was the band's debut back in 1990.Their later albums got increasingly better, especially "Blaise et Benjamin".

I will let you know how I get on with GSYBE - at this moment it is not something to be played in one sitting - unlike F#A# Infinity. Very intense music and definitely mood music me thinks

I am picking Spock's Beard will take a few listens as does most their work again I shall update you on that

Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjum

Mike Oldfield - Incantations

Marillion - Season's End

Sigur Ros album is an absolute masterpiece. I can't get enough of it. There are not many +70 minutes albums that can hold you stunned all the way through. The word 'beautiful' doesn't even begin to describe what's going on there.

Oldfield is probably a bit too long (Part 3 should be edited) but it's still very good, atmospheric music with great vocal parts.

Marillion didn't impress so far. I'll give it one more listen soon.

Already shipped and heading home:

-Mr.Bungle - Disco Volante

-GSBE! - Lift Your Skinny Fists...

-Pink Floyd - The Final Cut (remaster with "When The Tigers Broke Free")

-Scorpions - Lonesome Crow

Visited one of the better prog specialists Ultima Thule in Leicester today - bad timing  since there was a West Indian Street Carnival/Procession on when I arrived and it took 90 minutes to get out of the jam and into a car park.

But as ever came away with some obscurities:

Cheiro De Vida : 1988, a live recordings of a steaming Brazilian jazzrock/funk trio - helluva of bassplayer (cross between Hellberg and Jeff Berlin). One for Danbo........

Exmagma: Exmagma/ Goldball twoforone - great german jazz rock fusion, somewhat canterbury/Machine influenced - and hey plenty of ring modulation. Thanks for the recommendation guys.

Various: The Letter-  An Unconventional Italian Guide To King Crimson - triple CD set 2nd hand for 12 quid, originally released by Mellow

Gnomen: Last Caravan To The Stars - a fiver 2nd hand but as yet briefly sampled jazz fusion.

My latest purchases, rated 1 to 10:

1. Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden :  Still getting my head around it, but unusual.  I can see where Radiohead got some of their sound from.  A 7 so far.

2. Kaipa - Mindrevolutions: Very impressive Stolt/Flower Kings off-shoot project.  A very pleasant surprise!  a 9.5!

3. The Tangent - The World We Drive Through:  Another impressive (and jazzy!) Stolt side project.  Another 9.5!

4. Pendragon - The Masqurade Overture: I'm not a huge neo-fan, but I had not heard much from these guys...and this is supposed to be their masterpiece.  I am still drawing a conclusion, but probably around a 6.

5.  Bo Hansson - The Magician's Hat:  A keeper.  Mostly instrumental keyboard based prog.  A 6 out of 10.

I recently bought Presto Ballet - Peace among the ruins.  Fabulous new Prog album from Kurt Vaderhoof of Metal Church (of all things!)  Best album I've heard in a decade.  Every song is just a total joy to listen to.  I normally dont keep a CD long in my tray, but this keeps returning way more often than any other has since I used to wear holes in my vinyl Led Zeppelin albums.

I also just released my own CD yesterday (shameless plug, but most who hear it have had really good things to say...)

Dont be hatin!
