newbie here so be nice ....i got Peter Gabriels new album today and just wandered on thoughts and all that?i think its great....i thought his covers album was not that great( to be honest didn't love his last few albums since so except for a few good tracks) but the choices of songs on this cd are great and not all of the arrangements go the way you think them to go....or are just completly differnent except the vocals....could say more but just really enjoying it. in fact so much better than i expected......got the double CD.....just thought i'd throw in something  |

I caught some of it streaming and decided it wasn't something I really needed to have.

I have not listened to it yet, but I understand that it is reworkings of many of his old songs. No drums or guitars, but a lot of orchestration? How about posting a review Ady?

christ i've never reviewed a thing in me life!......all i can say being a big PG fan i thought it was going to be crap like what i thought his covers album was......i like classical music but more the stuff like phillip glass and steve reich.......and this is a nice reinterpretaion of songs.....yeah most of them do have the same melodies as the songs they were....but they come across somewhat different...like say"san jacinto" beautifully put together....like "red rain"....nicely done that one. then on the other hand you got both "rhythm of the heat" and "intruder" which are totally re-worked.....but sound nice and refreshing.......whats nice about this album is its not a greatest hits compo....its a selection that works well for its style.....he;s on jules holland tonight so go have a butchers or watch it on that iplayer thing |

His recent concerts were all done with the orchestra format used on "Scratch my Back" and half of the songs were from the album and half from his old catalog, re-arranged. The Gabriel songs were much better and this is what "New Blood" is, studio recordings of those songs.
Haven't heard enough to give a formal opinion on the album. I will. As I do on all things Gabriel. ------------- You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all. |

after 2 listens,stand out tracks are The RhythmOf the Heat,San Jacinto,Red Rain and Darkness. Some of the others don't seem to hit the spot but I'll keep playing them as Heroes from Scratch My Back really grew on me after initially thinking it was awful ------------- it's in the way that you use it |

He appeared on Jools Holland BBC2 last night. He did two tracks with the orchestra: Solsbury Hill, which was fairly standard, and Red Rain, which was blinding. ------------- Enhance your life.
