Do you
agree with me that, since the end of the 60s, Paul McCartney has put some “progressive
effort” into some of his songs ? I’m not saying he was a Progressive Rock
artist… it’s just that, listening to some of his songs (I’m a Beatlemaniac), I
get the impression that he was, in a way, influenced by Progressive bands/artists
or was even trying to sound like them !
I think the Progressive movement was so big and intense by the late 60’s and
first half of the 70’s that many bands, playing very different styles, were
influenced by Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant, ELP, VDGG, Camel… even
listening to bands like ABBA and Bee Gees I sometimes think they borrowed much
(or little, whatever…) from those bands I cited… (remember that Lennon was a

| House Of Wax has a Symphony Prog feel to it with a brilliant guitar solo near the end. But really, Paul McCartney is more of a progressive pop artist with some rock elements to his music (Buddy Holly is a major influence), while John Lennon and George Harrison are more rock artists than pop musicians. |

| I presume Band On The Run was ommitted because it would win easily (or are all Wings songs excluded?). Live and Let Die and Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five are also very proggy sounding tracks to my ears. |

I did put Wings songs, but they are in Part 1 (this is the continuation, from 1980 to 2007). Do you consider the song Band On The Run proggy ? I thought about including it, but... whatever, I didn't... Live and Let Die was one that I really forgot, because I was looking for the songs in the albums and forgot the singles !  ------------- Symphonic Prog Master |
