the archive previews about this overwhelming and legendary group really are out of the blue.........first,they didn't make any of beatles's covers, they obviously created authentic prog-folk tended songs-negru-voda,in umbra marelui urss, nunta, mica tiganiada,strunga...........they're all strong replies of that sphere of composition.a tribute for those that raised us,experimental people, romanian ones.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mircea baniciu was surely a tight influence of what we called-prog.

There was an offshoot of Argent called Phoenix, who made a rather good melodic rock album, including an excellent track called "Easy".

Not the band you're referring to though!

Cantafabule is a fantastic album, if they were born in UK maybe today we'd speak about Phoenix and not only about King Crimson, Yes, Genesis etc...

Man, I have a (vinyl) single from their early period in which they perform the Beatles cover Lady Madonna. Are you sure you know anything about Phoenix? Please find Nicolae Covaci book "Phoenix, insa eu" read it and after that we will discuss about everything you want.

BTW I think "In umbra marelui urs" could not be mentioned nearby negru-voda or mica tiganiada. It belongs to later period, which is not quite prog

Of course, they're Romanian and they rocked during the 70's and 80's...Whenever Phoenix were singing,it was a massive hysteria (sp??)...We were (I mean I haven't heard them, since I'm 16,but my father told me)hypnotized by Phoenix and it's music...They could be considered folk-prog,as many of their songs are themes from our popular songs...They are even heroes for escaping Romania when Ceausescu banned them...

I'm telling you,if it was not for the stupid comunist represal,Pheonix would have easily compete with Jethro Tull...
