Pretty straight forward Poll.

What is you favourite record label?

For me there are some which have a certain 'Quality' which sets them apart. This may come from the quality of the production, the packaging or just the artists which are signed to them.

I went for EMI, because there is just seems to be me to excellent production on their releases and I guess the thought of recording at Abbey Road is just so appealing.

Voted for Atlantic since they had three of my favourite bands - Yes, ELP and Led Zeppelin - though it could just as easily have been Charisma.

I'm surprised you didn't include Vertigo as one of the options as they are probably the ultimate 'prog' label from the early 70s - Uriah Heep, Manfred Mann, Colosseum, Jade Warrior, Beggars Opera and a shedload of others.

Racket Records - because it's owned by the band, they don't get ripped off.

Voted 'Other' because I really do not care what the label is.  It's the artists and the music that concern me.

Looking at my collection: wow, a lot of Earache references, some stuff from Relapse, also things from Roadrunner or Noise (me, a metalhead?), a growing set of Futura/Marge records, ReR, Cuneiform, Gazul...

Okay, let's say: "Others", for I could hardly make my own mind about my "allegiances".

Independent labels, Repertoire from Germany and Akarma from Italy with thier fantastic reissues of obscure artists from the late 60's/70's. Honourable mention to Rhino for getting the ball rolling in the 80's.

Harvest-for me, it qualifies,if only, for Quatermass, Triumvirat, and Helmut Koellen solo (though there are many other good artists there)
my second choice would be other-Bellaphon-Bacillus-Dzyan, Pell Mell, Nektar, Midnight Circus

Altrock. (I suppose Fading also deserves mention, though I haven't acually heard anything from that label.)

Best modern label around IMO.

Independent labels or those, who are founded by musicians. For example A&M records, which was founded by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. They were independent until they were bought by a major company in 1989, and ceased to exist in 2000.

Maybe Musea, and it's hard to explain why.
Maybe because they just had some wonderful back catalogue, with re - issues of classic prog records, with well filled booklets of the history of a band.
Maybe because of their love of prog, and for being so obviously non profit.
Maybe because of their wonderful phrase  les classiques du futur (the future classics).
Probably just because of the music of acts like Sandrose, Rousseau, Neuschwanstein, Cliffhanger, Mugen, Pageant etc.

Atlantic just about ruled the seventies.
But since then, a number of indy labels have lead the prog cause.
I'd have to say Cuneiform for being the most daring and consistent.
But there are plenty of close seconds.

ah, classical music labels-one of my faves is Sony Music-also like EMI Classics
I'm very into historical classical recordings-Symposium, Music and Arts, Naxos Historical, BBC Legends, Preiser Records, Dutton, Somm Records are good for historical classical records

I have little interest in labels. Still I voted for Charisma because Genesis and Van der Graaf Generator belonged to their stable.

I was never one to follow a "label", really, but in the early 70s I did like the Warner label and its offshoots: Straight, Reprise (which handled US and Canadian distribution of British bands) and Bizarre Records. Zappa, Alice Cooper, Captain Beefheart, T-Rex, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath -- that's what I was listening to back then.

Swan Song (Zeppelin's own label) had the best symbol though (Icarus descending).
