I agree, great band, but they played when the extraordinary was the ordinary....

Cressida had an unique style: melancholic but at the same time beautiful songs giving

an peaceful feeling, espesially the Hammond sound is magnificent. The vocals are

great also but lacking real power and that is the only reason why I personally canīt

give those two albums more than four stars. The band had a great drummer Ian Clarke

whose powerful drumming can also be heard on Uriah Heepīs  Look at Yourself -album.

Judging from their first album I think they were quite interesting, a
mix of early Caravan and Moody Blues perhaps? Contrary to Hente, I
like the vocals, maybe just because Angus Cullen reminds me of
Richard Sinclair - they were also clever in creating short songs with a
good amount of changes in them without losing the focus of the
composition. looking forward to finding their second album...

Not sure about that, but the Cressida albums are extremely assured and beautifully crafted, with a keen songwriting edge that the best prog bands had.

I wouldn't say they were in the upper tier of prog bands but they were for sure a very good band that every fan of well composed melodic progressive rock should get ahold of. I think of them as a Moody Blues like band with less pop and more progressive parts to their music. Very early 70's sounding with good vocals and nice organ playing (not bombastic).

EDIT:  By the way, if you really like Cressida, other bands of equal quality (IMO) and sound are Fantasy ("Beyond the Beyond"), Spring and Beggar's Opera (first 3 CD's). Even The Nice had some similar songs.

Best of 2006 that I've heard:
PFM-Stati Di Immaginazione
Zenit-Surrender (Best "unknown" album)
Oaksenham - Conquest of Pacific
2007:
Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon
La Torre Del Alchimista - Neo

Great band, especially their second album "Asylum". Very nice music with delicate sound and melancholic atmosphere. A bit of Canterbury style is there too.

I like very much beautiful vocals.
