Children Of The Sun is pretty progressive, and some of the albums that followed.

Yikes, you have quite the number of suggestions! Tongue
You will need to gain the support of a Special Collaborator before you go anywhere with Prog Related. A SC will then need to present the band to the admin team.

Don't this guy/album fit the Crossover frame?

If I understand the Prog Related section right it is for artists who had some really Prog albums, and then have gotten away from them/had a big impact on Prog. A ton of his stuff is no where near Prog.

The thing is, I don't believe he fits the definition of prog related, so his adition is unlikely there. On crossover, however, I believe he has a chance if he has at least one full-fledged progressive rock album. Just point out which album (or albums) and I believe there won't be much trouble getting he in out database.

Thanks Caio, I trust your decision (even tho I'm somehow pretty sure it'll get straight NOs from the X-O team Tongue ). I'll skip listening to this band and that's what counts right now. Wink

For Crossover?

The crossover team is notoriously inclusive - because the genre definition is so wide, if they weren't, we would have half the music world in the subgenre!

^ That's how it looks, yes, but in my business history with the team I discovered it's more of a myth.

For sure Children of the Sun is a progressive composition, lots of synthesizers, space/fantasy lyrics.......but when I think about Billy Thorpe as compared to Supertramp.....that would be my struggle.

His myspace does not have any music or anything like that because he died in 2007, here is his discography and official website if this helps.

I still think his music is too poppy and not enough albums that were Prog.
I will post a video of me eating my socks if he gets through. Tongue

What was the outcome here? ( A 'no', or a 'lost in the system'?)

I only just read about Children Of The Sun (and am listening to some of it online right now) - before this I only knew his 60s and early 70s stuff

I too am VERY keen to hear what the outcome was of this submission. When I saw the name "Billy Thorpe" just then in this section of PA I was astounded, I too being familiar with Thorpe's 60's and early 70's releases.

I agree that his later "space opera" albums, recorded after he moved from Oz to the USA are the ones relevant to PA - I'm reluctant to say/suggest much more than that though. Except that - in my mind's eye, I can't help thinking of grizzled PA evaluators grimacing at "Poison ivy" et al (Billy the 60's pop idol) and "Oo Poo Da Doo" et al (pony-tail Billy, leading his Aztecs through endless boogie excursions).

Smile

From what I ultimately got to hear of Children Of The Sun, I'm guessing it was a no.

When I last posted, I'd just read his biography, in which much was made of his apparent Yes and King Crimson influences during this period, and claims that Children of The Sun picked up the same audience that got into eg Rush. Hence my curiosity to see if he was listed here.

If he was included, I'd probably just waste everyone's time with my 2 star review of the Live At Sunbury album

Time to Live dated back to 1972 when Thorpie was the king of hard rocking blues in Oz. He went thru genre phases almost as many times as Zappa went thru bands.
