Topic: The PA Listening RoomPosted By: Andy Webb
Subject: The PA Listening Room
Date Posted: June 22 2011 at 17:15
Hi guys,
Stephen (TheGazzadrian) has made a pretty dandy thing. It's called a Listening Room, hosted at the website of the same name. There anyone can sign up (or not, your choice), upload your favorite song for all to hear, and chat about it. You can find the room http://listeningroom.net/room/PA/" rel="nofollow - here . Go on over, post a song, and enjoy the music.

Andy, it's all good. Also, you guys give me a bit too much credit - it was a two second process to create the room, all the real credit goes to the creator of the website.
I would like to inform anyone looking into this that it is a bit erratic right now. Some tips we've uncovered from using it the past couple of days:
1) Sometimes, the site starts playing a track before it has been fully uploaded. If this is the case, and the playhead surpasses the point in the track that has been uploaded, it will stop playing and move on to the next track.
2) Lots of uploads at once tend to confuse it and cause it to lose all progress on some existing uploads. We've found that it handles 3-4 simultaneous uploads at a time. Please be considerate and patient when people are uploading, especially those with slow connections.

Last night in listening room was a great and interesting night. Very little prog was played; we were listening to Hip-Hop, some electronic music, and avant garde music.
Definitely a great place to go to be exposed to stuff you might not otherwise hear.

Last night was definitely nice. Also, some loser trolls from 4chan have hit the listeningroom with 10 hour uploads of nyancat, so we aren't publicizing our new location.

Buddy, I don't know what they teach you in school over there, but America is a continent, not a country - hence, Canadians, Peruvians, Mexicans, United Staters, Brazilians = Americans.

The word American refers to a citizen of the United States, though, and inhabitants of any of those other countries fine it pretty offensive to be lumped with that.

We here can refer to both the United States and the whole continent of North America (and their respective populations) when saying "America" (and "Americans"). We should probably make it more clear to which we are referring, but you also should be aware of this.

Currently Plankowner and I are sitting in a virtual room (i.e. Second Life) and listening to Kayo Dot at the same time. Plankowner plays the music from his computer (with winamp). And we both listen to it. We move through the virtual room through avatars (see pic above). My avatar is the one on the left. Plankowner's avatar sits in the middle.
At any time I can take the stream and play music from my computer, and Plankowner will hear that. We can talk with voice or chat with text about it.

You have to pay to get money in Second Life. The game itself is free, but to get stuff you have to use something like PayPal to get money in Second Life, which you can then use to buy whatever.

It's easy to spend money on the game's currency, Linden dollars.. for example when I fixed up my avatar I spent about $10 USD, getting skin, hair, eyes, etc.. I paid $10 USD a month for a residence, but you can also rent land, which can get expensive also.. but anyone here wouldn't have to do that, since Formentera Lady and I are renting the space I showed you in the picture.. but you can spend Linden on a plethora of things, tipping djs, buying clothes, animations, etc... but on the flip side you can also create things and sell them, and can dj and get tips etc.. and say if you created things and sold them, you can in turn cash out the Linden for currency also.. But the Sheavy's point is the longer you play the more things you might want and to get them you may purchase the Linden.. like for example the stream I refer to I pay L$500 for a month for a certain amount of listeners which comes to about $2.50 USD a month .. But for those who came in game I'd provide the streams for.. I am more interested in creating a community so to speak and try my best to advise to keep the game for free for most everyone involved..
