I adore both but prefer H to He.
In my poll "4bands,8pairs" the pair of these albums didn't get any vote. That's why I've created this poll - to see what you think about these works.

Islands must be the album name that fits the better with the music. What a wonderful trip of music and atmosphere

I have to say Islands, because it seems much more well composed.

This may be my first time voting for VdGG, but that album is my favorite of theirs. "There's a house with no door" is wow.

They're both one of the weaker albums of both bands, but H to He.

I must admit i'm shocked Islands is winning this right now. Two amazing bands but H To He is my fav VDGG album while Islands is far down my list of fav KC albums.

H to He is my favorite VdGG as well, especially with the addition of Squid 1/Squid 2/Octopus.

My thoughts exactly; though I like "Pawn Hearts" more than "H to He," I am also shocked that "Islands" is winning. I assumed that "Islands" was the ugly duckling of the KC catalog, but clearly there are a large number of people who enjoy it. I suppose I'll have to give it another listen to see what I'm missing.

I go with Islands on this one though I love VDGG:) Islands is one of those unique Crimson records that doesn't sound like any of the others. I love the classical/rock blend of some of the songs:)
------------- A GREAT YEAR FOR PROG!!!

Islands features Robert Fripp.
H To He features Robert Fripp and Peter Hammill.
Pretty obvious who wins here.

Islands is unique, excellent, unrepeatable matter.
He To He is one of Van Der Graaf similar albums only.

A rather good poll imho: these albums are almost equally good. Islands has some of the best moments of KC. It is my favourite KC album and I would give it a 4+. H to He is just a bit better (5-), being VdGG's best album of their earlier period.

Very different albums. Both great!
Perhaps Islands is more symphonic way and H to He explores into the VDGG´s sound.
I will choose H to He, but Islands is 10 too!

Not the best album by either, but both are pretty good. Love the underrated Formentara Lady... actually the whole first side is pretty darn good. The second side is where it unravels.
Killer is a monster track, and the others are good too. H to He, but only because it's solid throughout.
Both bands have far better albums, though, so it's a fair comparison.

To me Islands is clearly the weakest of early King Crimson albums, whereas H to He... is one of the strongest Generator collections, so my vote goes without hesitating to VdGG.

The nod goes to my favorite Crimso album - Islands. H is a great record, but there are at least three VgG albums that I prefer over it.

I'd choose KC over VDGG any day....unless one is using Beat and TOAPP to compare.
And I Still think Hammill's vocals ruin some of their best tracks.

H to He. It would be interesting to compare Islands with Steven Wilson's "Grace for Drowning"... I feel Wilson's album continues what Fripp was doing before he changed his formula all over again.

Islands for me. I'm not sure why so many people like H to He. I really like VDG, but I think H to He is one of their weakest albums. I made the mistake of listening to that album first, and it was years before I came back to VDG. Now they are one of my favorite bands, though.
