Finally I bought Mars Volta: de-loused in the comatorium, after days of self-debate whether I should get it or not.

After three days, I have been spinning that CD, keep playing using my personal cd-player, or in the car while I drive to work.

Actually it is a good band I would say though. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. I am just imagining, that it is a good band, might as well make it better by putting Peter Gabriel as the lead-singer and Michael Romeo as the lead-guitar player. I already like the bass player and the drummer though.

Or maybe put Steve Hackett on it?

If that happens, Mars Volta would be my-kind-of-a-band.

Well at least I have a littke dream here, guys.  What do you think of that formation?

essentially you want to rip the band apart and forget about the primary songwriter and the lyricist.  very bizarre.

yeah that wouldnt be The Mars Volta anymore, because you wouldnt have Omar's insane way of playing, and plus Omar and Cedric do basically all the writing/songmaking for the band

Mars Volta with Peter Gabriel? I would buy it. Peter Gabriel´s theatrical voice would fit in there. The vocals are in my opinion the weak point of this group. But I wouldn´t change more.

precisely, although jon theodore the drummer is integral as he and omar often lock themselves in a room when it comes to the songwriting.  the drummer is a genius.  you only have to watch their live shows to realise he is the centre of the band; they all look to him.

There's no need to put horrible guitar parts all over it

Horrible guitar parts?  Either you like their style or you don't, the only thing I don't like is all the noise on Frances The Mute, there's way too much noise.

I agree that putting Romeo in TMV would be a complete loss of talent (better keep him making good music)

??

I dont' think Gabriel would fit in TMV very well.

The singer they have now fits great.

Imagine:

Taking Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel, putting them with the aformentioned drummer and bassist, and having Tony Banks enter as well on keyboards.  Next the drummer and bassist exit (after disputes with Banks, Hackett and Gabriel), allowing Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford to enter.  That would be my kind of band.

Why not have Jon Anderson sing for King Crimson then?

Yer all nutz. I'd hire Danny Bonaducci and let his fretless madness take control. Maybe Paul Reubens on vocals. I love his work doing "Meka Leka High Meka Hynie Ho."

I think he could, hes got an incredible amount of range and in his over 30 year career he has done many different styles and could probably hold his own in almost any setting (not sure about rapping though ). I think he could cut it in TMV, but you cant take the guitarist out. May as well cut the head clean off.
