I've seen recently, and with a great pleasure, that an amazing band such as Indaco, is been finally added to the Prog Archives. The band is in the Prog Folk category, and for sure this is the best among the available, but I am in a bit of a question... Progressive rock is, on my opinion, basically a conceptual form of music, where the composition come even before the execution, and the intentions,(the concept) are very important.  So I am wondering, if it is right to put under the same category band like Jethro Tull or Strawbs, which use sonds and chords of folk music in order to create new compositions, with bands like Indaco or Dead Can Dance more focussed on the research and study of the roots of ethnic music? An unusual album of Peter Gabriel such as "Passion" Could be a Prog-Folk's work  I am not English and I am very sorry that my command of the English language is still a bit poor, however I hope the concept of my topic is clear enough, otherwise please let me know...  ------------- "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be." | Good question. The issue has been debated in the past and Prog-Folk won't be split to create a new category, because there are many categories already and the difference between ethnic and folk is not that fundamental. |

Hey Pietro,
You're still a newbie soooo welcome aboard.
to my knowledge this band is not anew addition at all.... Proglucky's addition with Lise's biography would hint that this band has been on the PA db since almost the start of the site in 2004 (the earliest reviews date from 2005)... pre=dating the "specialist teams" creation.
However the major problem plaguing the site is the genre and the fact that an artiste has to have and just one... Indeed, Tull is not really the best example of PF, since only three of their albums are really PF (Woods, Horses and Stom)....
And Dead Can Dance has only two PF albums , coming fromgothic rock and heading into world fusion....We as a team thought that they were better suited fopr a prog=related status, but since it didn't get a yes vote, we had to resort to include them in PF 5maybe we'll ask the X=over team)
Soooooo my best advice is to ignore these dumb genre career tags or at least not take them seriously or for granted, because the system is completely flawed.

First of all thank you very much for the welcome! Sorry if I haven't seen the Indaco before. I am a random visitor since the 2005 of Prog Archive, but just 2 weks ago' I've joined as a member, and it's easy that I miss them. I am agree that definitions are often unsatisfactory, but they are in my opinion also a necessary evil in order to give a sort of first information. I mean, thanks to the Cross-over category, I acknowledged of bands that now I love such as Pinapple Thief, Gazpacho, Phideaux and Dredg. ------------- "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be." By the way many bands from the Gothic moviments have several prog elements in their music besides Dead Can Dance. Some of them listed in the Prog Archive such as Cocteau Twins and Lacrimosa., some other not, such as Sad Lovers and Giants, Wolfgang Press and This Mortal Coi...(In my opinion) some songs of the traditional Progressive rock are even forerunner of the Gothic genre, I quote among the others the Musical box, the Van der Graff Generator's atmosphere, Spirit of the water etc... ------------- "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be."
