I think I attempted to add these very auspicious recording artists a couple of years back but I was shot down in flames. So this is my second try. What is more prog than their collosal hit Stonehenge? There's complexity, deep lyrics and the incredible stage performance and props.

I'll even take the time to write the bio which will occupy 10 pages in odrer to document there prolific career. I will even try to get an exclusive PA interview with Nigel Tufnel and David St, Hubbins providing they are on speaking terms with one another.

Cast your votes and I will get the ball rolling on this mammoth project.

The sign of maturity of a certain art form is its ability to make a parody of itself !

I actually do believe that Spinal Tap could fit Prog Related.  I'm biased though as a big Tapper.

I wanted to post a youtube vid of Clam Caravan off Break Like the Wind, but it seems unavailable.

And maybe Dream theater was infleunced by Spinal Tap (note the intros in particular)

Stonehenge is a really good song though. No, seriously !!

But I think I have to shoot you out of the skies for this suggestion, Vibrationbaby. Stick to blueberries and porridge.

MY OBJECTIONS HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stick to whatever you are eating and get this ten page bio over to us. That would be the read of the year.    Nigel and David was last spotted in a TV studio together, sitting on a sofa on a morning breakast evening meal TV programme.

Did they not have a Jazz-Rock period which might just get them in?  The Bio would need a huge section just for the number of Drummers and the various ways they departed.  I would vote for them.

Not if you are eating corn flakes in a bowl of vodka. Then the inclusion of Spinal Tap in PA becomes far more important than life itselves.

Aw c'mon Bob. I have already started writing the bio I'm on page 7 already Big smile. I mean there are some band inclusions  here that are ridiculously  out of place. For example, when Split Enz were added I couldn't even believe it. I kow Tap are  a parody band but they parody prog  a lot and Stone Henge and Rock and Roll Creationn aren't really  bad songs and they do have  a few actual albums. Some guys are even for it. I got 16 why nots on the poll on the original thread plus
I would have liked to hear that prog epic they were going to write about Jack the Ripper.

Bad choice. I mean Corn ... what ... fakes or flakes. You need a better company to vodka - potatoes, meat, fish, mushrooms (not the ones which extend your boundaries though) etc. And a friend to talk with.

Please let us have a read before the evaluation team, if still alive after the read (place your bets now), proceed with the matter.

Why do I think that I've been shot down again. Cry  I'll send it when it's done. But so far it's pretty silly I'm warning you. I have even gone through just about every interview I could find. Best one was with Nigel when he complains that most of the time they could find the stage but Marty DeBergi had to use footage shot on one of the rare occasion when they couldn't find the stage.
I remember an interview with Ozzy commenting on Spinal Tap. He didn't find it funny because most of the things in This Is Spinal Tap really happened to him including not being able to find the stage on more than on occasion!

you mean Saucy Jack

..and BTW;  if you couldn't believe Split Enz were added then you either have not heard Mental Notes or you have an incredibly narrow view of Prog (which doesn't seem to be the case)

I simply meant Mental Notes is clearly Prog rock, and when judged by that very significant album, they definitely deserve to be here

and I'm a big Tap fan also

While we are at worthy candidates for Prog Related/Prog Retarded, Bad News is surely worthy an inclusion too. They did at least have some very long songs like Bohemian Rhapsody and a song about Ghengis Khan. If that does not warrant an inclusion......

I stepped down from being an evaluator for the sole reason of the overload of new music.  Although the flak we got didn't hurt my decision.  I am proud of those controversial artists whose addition I supported that were added.  But the Tap is a joke band, so if I were still doing evaluations, I'd have to say nay.

A Spinal Tap is actually a medical diagnostic procedure to extract cerebrospinal fluid. Doctors call it a lumber puncture. Google it if you don't believe me.

Anyway I don't know about Joke band because they were actually a real band and went on sold out tours. Recently some porno director proposed a XXX parody of Spinal Tap. a parody of a parody???Confused

I remember seeing it for the first time in '84 with my girlfriend most people actually thought it was a real band and some were even angry because they wasted their money seeing a film about such a sh*t band. I am NOT making this up.

And if you don't think they are a real band this is the by far the best fansite I could find

I've tried this many times before but here I go again. Spinal Tap were a very important band in that they were very progressive and touched on so many different styles. They have influenced bands from Led Zeppelin to Metallica both of which are represented here on PA. I can't think of a more influential band in the annals of not only progressive rock but the history of rock music itself. Nigel Tufnel is perhaps the greatest musical genius, albeit misunderstood, who has ever walked the Earth since the days of Mozart. Progarchives owes them the honour.

"Warriors of Genghis Khan" is musically complex enough to qualify as math rock but it's the lyrics that make it prog metal:

Burning, looting, raping, shooting (repeat)

Ah, but if we start calculating how many degrees of separation between Prog rock, prog related and prog related related are acceptable for a band to be included in the PA database...

Ah no. Your wings have actually been clipped - you cannot add them even if you wanted to.

As to your proposal - nope, don't waste your time on something that isn't going to happen. We don't work like that. If Spinal Tap were to be evaluated for Prog Related then they would have to be proposed to the Admin team by a Special Collaborator, we would then decide yay or nay and our decision would be final. [And to save time and energy I can state now the answer will be "nay"]

Dean is playing GOD. Mr Stickler for the rule books. I made another noble attempt to cut through the PA red tape and rub the fur of the cat the wrong way.
It's as if I was trying to get Celine or Justin Beiber  included.

Well I'm grounded. Flying a desk. For now. Spinal Tap are too "contervershial" for PA. Here they are at the Royal Albert Hall with amps turned to ELEVEN. The Majesty of Rock, The Mystery of Roll...........

If this inclusion was voted by a poll opened to the forumites, I'm kinda sure a huge majority would vote "No", even if gifted with the sense of humor.
After all, Spinal Tap is just a comedy act, nothing serious. Otherwise, we should also think about including the cantina band from Star Wars...

There is no fusion in the pop jazz Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes play in the Star Wars cantina, it's just had some electronic treatments, nothing special.
