So I'm back after another mass, near-year long hiatus, spitting out more than 20 reviews I had saved in my 'vaults' today, and I must say that one of them was for the Comus sophomore effort 'To Keep From Crying', which I absolutely fawned over. Jeepers though, I was reading some of the reviews (including what apparently is in no way an unbiased biography. I didn't know opinions counted as dictated and intrinsic facts these days) and see that folks hate this album something fierce. I was just wondering why. Sure it's simpler, sure it's not got no ten minute epics, and sure it's got a more poppy sound, but the melodies are so darn fine, yes they is. So Long Supernova...Anybody else up in here listened to the album? If so, whaddaya think, holmes?

What for there are countless question-marks in your reviews?
Only few examples: "Long Live Rock and Roll ? 1978 (4.2/5) 12 ?" "... the solo is ridiculous ? the guitar..." "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow ? 1975 Best (4.3/5) 12 ? "
------------- Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why... (D. Gilmour)

I kind of like it. It's obviously not nearly as good as First Utterance, and that disappointment is reflected is the ratings.

The question marks are obnoxious, I know. It happens when I copy from Microsoft Word. I'm too lazy to weed them out. I've also realized that, though I have the capacity and ability to readily maintain my status as a 'prog reviewer', I don't have the will to write reviews that are not slanderous, vulgar, 'stream-of consciousness'-ridden, and all that derivative Mark Prindleesque shizz.

Question marks indicate invalid characters, such as when one copies and pastes from Word. For example, if you type an ellipsis in Word, it converts it to a single character. This character is unreadable when published on the site, so it becomes a question mark.

I genuinely like it -- not nearly as much as First Utterance, nor as much as tracks Comus has released as bonus tracks, but I do like it. I agree with you. If First Utterance hadn't been so great then those that know To Keep From Crying would be kinder to it. Incidentally, Magma's Merci is another I think good which gets such a bad rap becuase it's seen as so much poorer than former releases (and because some never get past the first track), but had a band such as Asia released it, I think it would get higher ratings (at least amongst Zeuhl heads).

I was shocked by some of the songs. I recently obtained the Songs to Comus compilation, and fell in love with it. One of my favorite collections. I think it's crazy-cool that Wooton and Co wrote songs that wouldn't seem far off an old Carole King album. Hey... Carole King for prog related! :P

Do these invalid symbols add any pleasure for reading?

Sure, they make every sentence an inquiry. Turns me into the rhetorical machination. Jethro Tull's Heavy Horses is his best in years? Led Zeppelin is terrible? It makes me seem less of an a****le.

Iron Maiden's working on a new album? Oh Christ! I'd rather Overkill release something. At least I never had any respect for Overkill. Let me guess, it'll be about horses with guns in space fighting Hitler, the songs will all be nine minutes long, Bruce will be mid-range yelping, the guitars will 'gallop' and it'll have a cover inspired by either a war, a comic book, or a monster.
I've also realized that I have little tolerance for early 1960's jukebox rock (like the first few Stones/Beatles albums). England's Newest Hitmakers, my ass!

I haven't heard it recently, but I remember that I really enjoyed it and gave it a big thumbs up. Too bad even the band members hate it. But artists are not always the best judges of their own work.

Average at best.
But then again, poppiness is never a way to win favor from me. Sure, it has some good stuff, but overall...average. And I suppose from a prog perspective not too great.

I remember it being pretty good, but it should be obvious why prog fans don't care for it especially after First Utterance.

Which is why I will never be a prog 'fan'. Man, if I didn't like simpler (technically) music, I'd never care for Cat Stevens' Father and Son, which is one of the few songs to ever make me cry. No prog song has done that to me.

For the question marks, you know there's such a thing as find/replace, right?

You're overtly critical of me, lately. I don't care enough about the presentation of my reviews to make any changes during transfer.

I always present the exact amount of criticism that is necessary. If you don't care about the presentation of your reviews I am not sure why you are writing them.

That seems subjective. How can you objectively tell which criticism is 'necessary'? Do you have a magic machine?

I can tell you without magic machine that presentation of your reviews is a complete disrespect to readers. If you don't understand that PA is not a garbage collector I hope admins will explain you this in better words.

I am the metric by which all reality is measured. If you disagree, well, you probably aren't even real. Deal with it.

Perhaps they are great, but with these question marks they look like garbage. If you like it don't give up and keep on going this way.
