I do not care about the wedding, but I am not tired of the wedding coverage because I don't watch TV. I've heard about it more from people who are complaining about it than from actual news organizations.

I didn't know you guys got a free day off from work for those things.  With all the coverage you'd think I'd know that, but then we do pretty much flip the channel.  Helps if you avoid the morning shows.

True that. LOL But don't underestimate the powerful French TV entertainment industry. Actually I've lied a bit, two days ago my girlfriend said her co-workers had a discussion about the wedding at work. One of the girls was disappointed in the prince's choice (obviously). And that's really all I've heard about the issue.

^ that was just a bloody incident that didn't actually make French lose interest in the monarchy, which only happened gradually during the following century. LOL Reminds me of a certain bloody episode from British 17th century history which might have been the sign that the English had enough monarchy, but it wasn't to be... Tongue

As a descendant of Rollon the conqueror of Normandy, I firmly disapprove: kings are to be dethroned, their daughters ravished, their kingdoms conquered and the whole beer of said kingdom to be drunk in one week. Heads must roll, do you hear me, false Viking??! HEADS MUST ROLL!!!

I tend to agree with you. The Brits, who are my fellow humans in this society where I live (actually; the Brits are my obedient slaves here where I live), have had a very successful monarchy for 1000 years. They had a republic under Oliver Cromwell for some years and that was a terror regime in the same vein as Hitler's, Pol Pot's and Stalin's regimes. It was an experience not worth repeated which created divisions & bitterness still troubling these British island.

To those of you complaining about the costs:

Yes, this monarchy cost money. To be precise; 1/10 of what bad body odours in offices costs this nation. The latter one does not create a good flow of tourist and foreign valuta revenue, btw. Maybe it's about time to get the priorities right then. Take a sniff at your own armpits before you complain about this wedding and the monarchy.

And yes, I am not so elitist and snobbish that I turn my nose up at this wedding and the garden party with young excited females and great food I am writing these lines from. I am a human being and I have gradually accepted my lot. Good luck to those of you still in this process.

End of rant.

It is impossible not to watch this without getting flashbacks from the pictures of a young man following his mother out the door of the Westminister Abbey and to her final resting place. There is no doubts who was guest of honour at this wedding...... and it was not Elizabeth II.

Australia is getting live feed, minus 2/100 seconds due to geographic  distances. Well, it beats this 6 weeks long mail sail ship with..... ehh..... 6 weeks.

The rest of the comments just confirms my observations of you Brits all along. You pretend not to care and you pretend that you are all against this monarchy and the wedding. But deep down; you are all pro this. One of the sixty millions around the castle are. The streets are empty, I am told. People even refuses to die now, according to my hospital.

........ anyway, I have a good time at this garden party. White wine (my first drop of alcohol for many many weeks...), chicken and fish, fruits, desireable women which I would like some wedding nights rehearsals with, a big TV, my laptop and a  fast internet line. You all know this wedding was Great Britain at it's best. It beats the birthers by miles.

...... And William is the real deal and a fantastic asset to any organisation. His daytime job is life saver in a helicopter and that says a lot.

As I said; give me royalities any day instead of birthers and underage girls humping old men, you grumpy sods.

When you want to set up an enterprise and make money, you first have to put in money in manufacturing and other costs. As you rightly said, the manufacturing costs here are 40 GBP. The business also have an income side in the accounts too over the next 20-25 years which is far greater than the manufacturing costs. Great Britain is still getting money from the Diana/Charles product back in 1981. But off course; as you say; don't produce any goods/services whatsover because it cost money. Don't do anything. Starve. Starve to death.Wink

Edit: Any idea why tourists would visit Great Britain, Progkidjoel ? Is it because of the weather ? The farmfields ? Exotic cows ? Sex ? Hint, hint, hint........ We have just had a big advert on the TV watched by two billion people. The rule of thumb is 10 x income of the advert expenses..... Over 20-25 years, that is a 40 GBP advert budget any marketing director would sign off with big glee and joy.

Plus, if the figures are correct, one third of the world's population watched the wedding.

Yes, you can divide this 40 GBP marketing cost over 25 years or more. A rule of thumb is that you get 10 x back the advert cost if the advert, which in business speak this wedding was, is being broadcasted by all the major broadcasters in the USA........ alone. Add the other states too and this enterprise gets a type of financial return any business leaders would sacrifice their right arms for.

Weddings are expensive, royal weddings a couple of thousand times so.

The average wedding in the UK costs between 15,000 and 25,000 GPB (eek! I have a 20yo unmarried daughter!) and that "entertains" between 100 and 200 people. 40M GBP for entertaining 2000 guests, a few million spectators and a few billion world-wide seems commensurate by comparison to the 3M GBP Hollywood spent making the "William and Kate" TV movie. Perhaps the Middletons could have done it cheaper with a CGI westminster abbey, but Avatar cost 140M GBP.

I really think Catherine, Duchess of Cambridges sister is really a wonderfull looking woman herself, and I notised Harry liked being in her pressance. and her brother held a good speach, and the archbishop of Canterburry have an Epic voice that can rivale Christopher Lee,

Queen Sonja looked great to, and King Harrold had a nice uniform on.

even saw a glimps of the Sultan of Brunei, interesting fellow that i must say

I read an interesting op ed in the paper (USA Today, so keep how terrible it is in mind) about the Royal Wedding and how hard it is for England to give up the monarchy. Very interesting. I don't want to comment on it too much as it's English life and your business is what it is, but I know I certainly wouldn't like paying for the livelihood of useless layabouts, be they of "royal" blood or otherwise. And yet for a lot of people, periodic "magical" events such as this can distract from that. Interesting.

You don't get this concept of cost/sales/profit, do you ?

Why should we give up something that actually makes a big profit for our three kingdoms ? When are you Americans giving up producing Coca Cola, Microsoft operating systems, airplanes and all other profit making products ? Stop criticising us for making profits and income for our country as long as you are commiting the same sin. Big smile

Edit: To elaborate on this. A lot of tourists visiting Great Britain and a some British products sold abroad is directly linked to the presence of the royal family. Buckingham Palace is tourist destination # 1. Other residences like Balmoral, Winsdor and Sandringham also creates a lot of revenue. The royals is some of the most famous persons in this world. They use their status to generate sales for British businesses around the world. Their presence are indeed deal clinchers for many British businesses abroad.

When it comes to "lazy layabouts", you are off course referring to the US presidents and their family which in truth is lazy layabouts compared to the British royal family. The British royals work hard. Very hard. Almost all of it not reported by the media. One of them even went to war in Afghanistan and saw action in several battles. William, the groom, is saving lives every week as a rescue helicopter pilot. Some of your presidents hardly worked for a long time without pausing for vacations. Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin D Roosevelt, John F Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and Bush Jr springs to mind. Their holidays was extensive, to say at least.

The revenue of today's advert is far outstripping the costs in the next 25 years. It is a marketing man's dream. I don't think http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/barackobama/8478526/Barack-Obama-releases-birth-certificate-in-extraordinary-birther-intervention.html" rel="nofollow - this advert for US politics and society will generate any income to your tourism industry and manufacturing.

With respect.........    Wink
