I didn't realize Rascal Flatts was one of the poll choices.

I didn't realize you were basing your knowledge of an artist off a small percentage of their output.

I like both bands, but Genesis fell of the wagon after Hackett left, and I personally don't like their Collins era stuff. Crimson, on the other hand, has always been on top form, and continued that way until the last album, so Crimson gets my vote.

1980-1983 crimson slight edge

Genesis must win because Crimson didn't exist for half the great decade of the 70s. That's a good reason why Crimson could never be among my top 5 prog bands of the 70s

HA!

The second half of the 70's were lame. Guitarists became incapable of riffs. Bassists minimalised their input in the lead up to the dreaded 80s. And drummers became scared of the ride cymbal (not that Phil Collins wasn't always)

With this, we can safely ascertain that, other than very few exceptions, 75-79 were a sh*t time for prog and the downfall of culture and music. Thank christ for the 90s.

Because the best PA album is a Genesis's album and this show me : Most of 5 star members vote to Genesis albums. I love these 2 bands and its difficult for me to choose one of them. In "Subjective" opinion (my opinion) I choose KC but I cant ignore easily Genesis's bad (not cheap) albums.
Maybe I go to wrong way about 5 star members but this is my Personal opinion.

Actually, I think 1975 was an excellent year and there were many fantastic albums released during those twelve months. The late-seventies also saw the release of many fine Spanish prog albums; rock music had been banned during the Franco years and Spain was therefore a few years behind other countries.

I love Trespass and Nursery Cryme. I think their weak works strats from "Invisible Touche" to " I Can't Dance" but I love some os these album's songs. I can't say they are totally bad. Maybe you right about "From Genesis.." and this year "THE WATCH" try to show this album potential. I don't like "Timeless" anymore (IMO).
I know this is your personal opinion. I try to say number of "5 stars members" positive opinion about Genesis are same! I never accuse anyone to "BIAS" Genesis.

Crimson for me.  While Genesis went pop, Crimso went in a very progressive direction during the "Discipline" era.   They also deviated from the Les Paul/Mellotron formula more than Genesis did.

And, Mssr. Fripp is still at it!  Looking forward to the new release!

However, at the moment it would be Genesis by a mosquito's foreskin.

Interesting call. Both have put out both horrible and fantastic albums. Of course albums like Red and Foxtrot are popular but both showcase rather lacklustre musical taste and influences. However Three Of a Perfect Pair and Invisible Touch are true masterpieces of Music. I think King Crimson are easiest to forgive for such horrible albums as ITCOTCK and LTIA than Genesis are for the awful Selling England By The Pound

Tough one, I like 5 KC (Court, Poseidon, Lizard, Larks and Beat) albums against 2 Genesis (Nursery and Foxtrot)albums. But the two Genesis albums are alot better than the 5 KC albums. I guess I'll go with Genesis.

Crimson by a country mile, even though I like Genesis.

At their best, Genesis still couldn't come close to the power of the Crimson King.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Definitely King Crimson (especially for Larks'Tongues in Aspic, but not only for that), though I do like The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway very much.

I never ceased to be astonished by this forum's obsession with Genesis, who are slightly above average at best.

Really? Lark the Starless Tongue in Bible Black Aspic prefers Genesis? Is your screen name a misnomer?
Maybe you should call yourself Lamb the MoonlitLOL Kidding, of course.

King Crimson slightly, but not because of Genesis' shift in musical direction. That doesn't bother me because we were all fed up with art rock at the time, and the times - they were a changing.

So I am curious - why single out Tony Banks? As a keyboard player I admire some of his work immensely.
Am I missing something?

Genesis for me. I like a lot of King Crimson's work, but I like all eras of Genesis; they made some great pop songs/albums, too.

That apart, Banks was the man, the amazing songwriter.  Opinions will always be divided on his keyboard work but the credit for such brilliant compositions as Dancing with the moonlit knight cannot be taken away from him.  In the five man and four man era, none of them were really so polarizing in their contributions. Banks I have addressed above, Collins was a superb drummer, Gabriel made the proceedings lively, Hackett made them soulful and memorable.  All supported by the underrated Rutherford.
