May I ask you for helping me to find out an interpret of a song which I've heard first and last time at October in 1983. I'am still looking for it, also after 28 years! The Style is like VdGG, Marsupilami, Focus, Jethro Tull, Pell Mell or Parzival, it's a very good melodic prog-rock-synfonic-song, a bit dramatic-opera-style with refrain "Conversation, Demonstration...“ rest of words of refrain are sung faster and stop suddenly (like at the opera) to the beginning flute solo improvisation (like Ian Anderson) and after the impro there are some spoken words to the rhythm like "Downtown, Uptown, Insidetown" or so, accompanied with an long deep sax noice resounding at the end of the part. Unfortunately I don't have the recording anymore cause a person (what offered me to find out the song didn't give me back the cassett and the DJ died young! I still hope fo find out the groop and say thanks to you for helping me! By the way, this song is not played in a heavy way, it is less progressive, better discribed it's more in a wave-rock style with a good drive and that particulare refrain with stretched sung (spoken) words "CONVERSATION, DEMONSTRATION" (pronounced like obsessed), words repeated again more faster and faster (a bit dramatically) and than it stops and the flute-impro starts very melodic and stops in a thrilling way, and than the main ryhthm returns and softly words "downtown, uptown, inside-town make the song calm and it ends with a not loud but deep sax-noice resounding.
Thanks all of you! Luciana Aun Belo Horizonte - Brazil

Why you have started this thread using a copy of the same text as a German user posted back in September 2010?

Is the question the poster asked out of line for a progressive rock forum?

No it is not. However, if you moderated this forum as long and as often as I do you notice trends and repeat threads. One of the bizarre trends are threads such as these asking for help identifying songs. Searching the internet for possible sources of these songs is actually quite fun and appeals to my inquisitive nature. However, what I often find in these searches is the same person asking the same question on multiple music forums across a fairly wide time span, and that in itself I find just as curious since no one appears to have even the slightest inkling or idea what these songs are, again, a bizarre thing given the breadth, width and depth of musical knowledge that is prevalent across the internet, because one thing I have noticed is that no mater how obscure a recording is, there will always be some know-it-all out there who knows something, or knew the artist personally, or saw them play in some backstreet dive back in the day. Yet all these enquiries draw a blank, and as I say, I find this curious.
Now in this particular instance I happened to remember reading the self-same text as appears in this opening post some time earlier. That is curious, even you must admit that. When I checked I discovered it is a word for word verbatim copy of that text, again piquing my curiosity since the chances of a 32 yo Brazilian and a 48 yo German phrasing the same question on the same song is an amazing feat of serendipity, let alone coincidence, and to get it word-for-word identical is an absolutely amazing stroke of coincidence worthy of study in its own right.
Now, you can further that level of amazement by actually answering this person's enquiry with full details of this song, who recorded it and when, because that would really make my day.

I have no idea about the song?? I do know when you Google "luciana aun" you find that this person has many posts on the web about progressive rock. I am just a member of the site and know nothing about what you are up against being a moderator. What I do know is a harmless question about prog rock is just that until proven to be something more. A member since 2004 should be given the benefit of the courtesy. The same poster in 2005 posted she was listening to Pink Floyd on the what are you listening to now thread.

Yup. I get that, I also can read IP addresses that you can't, so I can rule out multiple personalities and screenname hijacking, so that just leaves a bizarre case of plagarism. True, I can be more polite and afford people the benefit of the doubt when phrasing my question, so I shall go back to my original post and rephrase it. Thanks for pointing this out, my wrists have been firmly slapped.

Let me post my theory..........since Luciana has a blog called prog rock vintage suppose thomas kramer came to the blog and a question was born, since they had no answer they came to the most comprehensive prog rock site in existence to get an answer, so now the question remains unanswered because it is not a prog rock song or who knows??

I´m sorry about this mess! Timothy is right. I have a progressive rock blog and someone wrote me with this question about this band that i don´t know. I don´t understand why everybody is joking about me. Once again, i´m sorry.

You are welcome here and there is no intention to humilate you. I just wanted to know why two threads, same question, same words, two different people.

I´m sorry too. I didn´t mean to cause any problems to you and all moderators. I´m just a woman that really progressive rock and wanted to help some guy that i´ve never seen or even talked. He sent me an email and i was hoping to get some help but everybody here made me feel like stupid.
I have suffered much prejudice for liking a music style that only men dominate. If any of you want to know me better, it will be a pleasure. I have a website about the subject in Brazil that is well respected by all. I think the reason for all this mess is just because i´m a woman.

At least we know Tomaraki has all 15 Gil Scott-Heron studio albums.

Luciana, don't worry, it's not your gender :) Dean was only confused because the guy who asked for your help asked here before and suddenly the same question was asked by someone completely different.
Sorrythough, I don't know the song. :(

Its ok Mr. Gazzardian. But i do not understand why some people here doubt that I am a member of this forum since 2004. I'm no fake. This is really me. Despite having a blog about progressive rock, I never participated in any internet forum other than this which rarely, almost neverposted anything. I'm no criminal. I was just trying to help someone but I did the wrong way. should have identified myself and told that someone had a question about some music that i don´t know. I´ve done wrong to simply copy and paste the doubt of this person.I really apologize abou this mess. I have great admiration for you all at this forum that I'm sure everyone here understands the issue much more than I understand. i really would to be welcome here because I have something to contribute to this forum. I´m no genius about progressive rock but this kind of music is part of my life since 14 years old.

I can vouch for Luciana, she's my girlfriend! So I'm pretty sure she's a real person. She got an email from Tom and we didn't know the answer, so she tried to get some help over here in this forum. I agree she should have written in the first post that she was asking in someone else's name, but, I don't think there was any need for this commotion. My baby is a very helpful person, and being approached by her blog, just wanted to help a "reader" out. She has a extensive prog rock blog in Portuguese and is an intensive Krautrock researcher (she tries to get me into it, but it's not my cup of tea). We all know how horrible it is to have a music in your head that you just can't figure out what it is. (I've spent months with the VdGG's Killers main riff in mine, it ate me away!) Anyway, I guess that Tom's song is a real mystery, we'll leave that to him. By the way, I too have another progressive mystery, if anyone can help me out: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=75675" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=75675

Why is everyone getting bent out of shape here? No accusations have been made. No one is making fun of anyone. No one is saying someone isn't "real".
Of course you are welcome here Luciana. I hope you enjoy visiting here and commenting here in future.

I don't think there has been a "commotion", except of course for Luciana's subsequent posts here. It's all cool. She overreacted. We all do it sometimes.
