Other than the famous In The Court lp i have been unable to find any of their albums with gatefold sleeves. I'm mostly looking for Islands and Earthbound which seem only available with picture sleeves

I've seen a copy of Lizard and (I think) In the Wake of Poseidon with a gatefold sleeve.

I don' think "Earthbound" ever had a gatefold. It was originally released by Island as part of the budget label "HELP" series. That said, "ELP's "Pictures.." was also one of those releases, and it did have a gatefold cover.

It takes some time to scour thru web pages of online vinyl record sellers, sometimes you have to email the seller and ask them for additional pics of what they are trying to sell, just to make sure you are both on the same 'gatefold page' Wink.

It may cost you a pretty penny if you find one.

I don't usually go for the rare ones so it hasn't been a problem so far, but however long it takes i definitely want Islands, and yes it does look like it comes pricey these days

The Japanese mini album CD replica of Red is a gatefold. They are usually very good reproductions of their 12" counterparts, so I assume that Red was also a gatefold (but can find no solid proof of that).

How about the 40 anniversary reissues? I saw one but it was wrapped in plastic so I couldn't see if it's gatefold. But that's what I would expect.

I thought In The Court was the only 40th Anniversary reissue to make it vinyl so far...

My Canadian Lizard opens out. But the quality of Canadian vinyl was crap which is the reason vinyl imprts were so popular here in the seventies. And we had to pay forthem. Even second hand copies were marked up.

^ In the Wake Of Poseidon is the most available one so that is probably what i'll end up getting as my first Crimson venture, of course i'll have to wait till i get paid first. Not for another 4-6 weeksAngry

I don't know about Islands UK, but Islands USA was gatefold, with the weird coloured islands on the cover.  All first four albums Gatefold.  Earthbound/Larks - no
Starless - gatefold
Red - not gatefold ever in USA and I doubt in UK.  MiniLP was made gatefold, but the new editions of Mini LP sleeves correct this flaw and return it to the single sleeve...

Discipline/Beat/Three were also gatefolds in the first japanese mini LP run but never gatefold on LP

As I was around when King Crimson released the albums...
ITCOTCK was a gatefold, as was ITWOP and LIZARD.
ISLANDS was as descibed - a non-gatefold. When it was re-released by EG (Crimson's management company), it became a gatefold, as illustrated in previous posts.
EARTHBOUND was non-gatefold, as was LARKS' TONGUES IN ASPIC.
STARLESS AND BIBLE BLACK was gatefold
RED and USA were non-gatefold.
It's a safe bet that A YOUNG PERSONS GUIDE was gatefold, as it was a double 12" album.
I cannot comment on LP's from DISCIPLINE onwards, as I never saw them or bought them.

A side note - only ISLANDS and RED had images of the band members.
