Well, in Keys to Ascension and Keystudio they released a couple of epic songs, and I must say they rather failed for me... though Mind Drive came close to being great, just some parts of it were really too cheesy (though some others were really excellent). On the other hand, Endless Dream (from Talk) was a relly great epic song for me. I hope this new one will really be great.

I really hope "Aliens Are Only Us From The Future" is on the album.
It would be even more awesome if it was the last track.

This appears to be speculation at the moment, even the site you link to says the title is "tentative". Is there an official source yet confirming the title and the information you give?

the site has been very accurate in the past---breaking news before official press releases with inside info--the word "tentative" was added later in the day---in the morning the site just said that was the title of the album---

We can fly from here was released on the "The Word is Live" 3-disc compilation, and is recorded on various bootlegs of the Drama tour. It and "Go Through This" were both tracks that didn't make it onto the disc due to the deadline, but they made it onto the tour. An instrumental version of Go Through This called "Have we really got to go through this?" was one of the bonus tracks on the Rhino remaster of Drama. Both are good tracks. I believe "Go Through This" is also on The Word Is Live.
That being said, I hope neither find their way onto this "new" album. They were good tracks, but now, 30 years later, I hope they have something better to say than either of those.

An album from the present line-up of YES is fantastic news.
I accept that it's no longer the 70's, and that msrs. Squire, Howe, and White are getting up there in years, but my experience of this band live was that they performed the music of YES with an authenticity and joy that I never saw during the Union or Talk tours. While I love Jon Anderson, I believe that Benoit David is better suited to actually performing these songs in 2011.
I have no idea whether this group can write good music, but for me, they have earned the right to give it a try!
I will listen with open ears...

Not crazy about the line-up---but will buy the album---saw this line-up live and was not impressed--the 35th anniversary tour was amazing--I understand they had to move on---Jon was all over the place, health wise and what he could or could not do---when he could do it---same for Rick. The three want to work and work, regularly not every 5 or 6 years and I can respect that. I wish they could have recorded with Jon---and made music with him ---and toured with whoever---Yes has done stranger things in the past. I also think it's acceptable in prog rock in particular to have 4 or 5 great composers in a band recording great songs--than constantly bringing in new guys who don't really get it.

I think a lot of people, who perhaps think the idea of Yes releasing a 20-minute song in 2011 is rather cliché, are failing to understand that Yes have always been better at writing long songs than short songs. For every good song you cna think of under 5 minutes, there's usually a better one over 10! Only with Trevor Rabin were the band able to make good singles.
And so, although since CDs have come around, 20 minute epics haven't been that necessary any more, I don't think anyone should not buy the new Yes album based on that. They gave us so much in the 70's they don't need to be progressive any more, they just need to make good music. And I know that Howe and Squire are great at writing extended length pieces, whether they are for the sake of being "prog" or the for the sake of being nostalgic!
It shouldn't be thought of as a bad attempt to be progressive... is what I'm saying..... but rather, an attempt to write good, if formulaic, music (as opposed to mediocre 90's pop!).

Listening to that, I quite like it! And I can see the potential it has for being a 20 minute epic (hopefully the new version will sound a bit more modern though).
'Have We Really Got To Go Through This' is really cool too, but I agree that it would be a disappointment for that to be the best the new line-up can offer.
I look forward also to the new music from Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman.

I like Howe, Squire and White and what they came up with for Drama. I can look upon this new album as "Yes" but mostly as a project from these three great musicians who have been capable of great things in the past. It won't need to obliterate my love for the classic yes, but might be a good album no matter who is singing it.

In which case, I would be far happier if they called it something else besides Yes. I know they have the legal right, but, even so, I really do still think the whole sage has become farcical and worse than a typical soap opera.

I sort of agree, but if 90125 hadn't been a "Yes" album despite massive line-up changes (only two members remaining from the previous album) and a huge change in sound, I wouldn't be here today. If this album is good, it may drive people to look backwards.

I know you all have been talking about it but I saw this blurb yesterday
Producer Trevor Horn, who helped Yes score a massive hit with 1983's "Owner Of A Lonely Heart," has been asked to produce the forthcoming Fly From Here, Yes' first collection of original songs in 10 years. The album will also mark the official debut of Benoit David, who replaced original frontman Jon Anderson several years ago. [RollingStone.com]

Ah this will be great to hear new Yes after so many years and about time too!
As long as Howe, Squire, and White are on it I could care less about the rest. I am sure Benoit sounds great (Anderson's voice is raspy these days) and Rick replaced by Oliver will not hurt either.
Great to hear this news!

Only insofar as it'll be a Yes album with 5 songs on it. The considerable involvement of Horn and Downes coupled with the fact that the epic title track will be a reworking of a Drama-era demo suggests that it could be more reminiscent of Drama than anything else, though if they pull off anything even half as good as that album I'd be amazed, quite frankly.

One of them is big (think Awaken)...... the others around 6 minutes!
And with Howe at the writing helm, I'm thinking it's going to be a little more in the progressive style of Yes than Drama was. Add to this the blood of a Wakeman..... and I think we have another GFTO. Obviously there are strong connections to Drama though.

Call me a sceptic if you like, but I've yet to see sufficient peer-reviewed evidence to persuade me that progginess is passed on genetically. Besides, Downes is providing most of the keys on this album, not Wakeman jr. Of course, Howe was also one of the main songwriters on Drama (which I actually maintain is a pretty proggy album, especially on the opening and closing tracks). I'd actually take Machine Messiah and Tempus Fugit over the majority of GFTO any day.
Either way, we've no way of knowing how this album's going to turn out so it's best not to waste too much time and effort speculating. All I'll say is, despite a few glimmers of hope here and there, Yes haven't really produced any decent new material for decades, and the fact that they're falling back on an old Drama-era demo as their title track for this new album doesn't exactly fill me with hope.

Of course progginess is passed on genetically! Look at Dweezil......
Ahhh you're right though..... why choose an out-take from the 80's if you're supposed to be being creative?
I bet there'll be a lot more hard rocking stuff now that Anderson has been "removed".... which could be either 'good' or 'really cheesy and bad'..........

That sounds good to me - implies that Fly From Here is the only one written in the Drama era (probably why Horn is insisting Downes plays on it). Meaning we are getting new tracks, thank goodness.

Maybe the music will be OK (I like Drama, but it is not my favorite Yes album), but we'll have to wait and see.
Squire seems to be the engineer of these moves, a bit heartless in my eyes. Ollie was a nice bridge to the distant past of Yes.

I'm just being a good "journalist" and posting them as they appear. I don't know how Trevor would be able to "insist" upon replacing Wakeman with Downes, as I wouldn't think he would rate that kind of influence. Ollie's the better keyboardist by far.
I still think this has Squire's fingerprints all over it. He should have called this something else, like the old "Cinema" project. Rent must be due or something.

But except for Geoffry (Born in 1952) and of course Benoit, none of them is that old to look like them.

Ollie did get axed, see this: http://heavyrocktheplaylist.blogspot.com/2011/03/yes-new-album-fly-from-here-out-in-july.html" rel="nofollow - http://heavyrocktheplaylist.blogspot.com/2011/03/yes-new-album-fly-from-here-out-in-july.html
Maybe the music will be OK (I like Drama, but it is not my favorite Yes album), but we'll have to wait and see.
Squire seems to be the engineer of these moves, a bit heartless in my eyes. Ollie was a nice bridge to the distant past of Yes.
I think it's a good move--I saw O.Wakeman live with the group and it was not good. He seemed timid and not self assured and had no strong playing style which for me is a disaster in a group like Yes. Downes has a style and is somewhat of a showman. I wonder if there was a time when Benoit's head was on the chopping block and the Drama line-up would reunite. Anyway I might go see them now---I was going to skip it--as I'm one of those long time fans who think it's not the same without Jon. Even thought I think maybe he tried to control too much of everything in the last 20 years.

I can't keep up with all the changes and politics in Yes.
You'd think that after all these years, they'd have learned to put their differences aside and work together.
I agree that Oliver seemed like he was taking a back seat when I saw them in 2009, but given the rest of the talent in the group, it must be hard to make an impression (after all, Yes have never had a poor keyboardist). Benoit really impressed me. Not only is it amazing that he sounds so much like Jon, but he had the biggest fan backlash to deal with at gigs, yet managed to project himself confidently.
I hope that Oliver can continue to contribute in some capacity to the recording. After spending all this time on the road with Yes, he deserves a permanent entry in the discography.

It's hard to keep up with the DRAMA---but most of it comes from 3 guys who want to work all the time and two others (Jon and Rick) who for health reasons can't. The two controlled the group for years until finally the other 3 had to make a move. As far as Oliver goes--(he didn't impress live) and it seems when he got in the studio he didn't impress there either so producer Trevor Horn phoned up his friend Downes to record. I'm not sure if Yes booted him or Horn started this in motion. For me a long time fan--I would have been happy if they recorded with Jon and toured with Benoit. Because Jon can't tour he admits it in a recent interview and Rick doesn't want to tour a lot.

Was he really so different?
There are good examples when bands hired completely different singers (Coverdale after Gillan, Dio instead Ozzy, Lawton after Byron), Trevor Horn in my opinion is not the same case.

I'm currently working on the Yes FFH layout and... I can tell you: this is going to be one of the best Roger Dean's cover in Years.

Nice to see an old fashioned Roger Dean cover.
I've got a short version of We Can Fly From Here on The Word Is Live and it's a good song so I'm looking forward to this.

Great to see that a Swedish online shopping site was the first to leak out the news!
This new album will directly effect my decision of whether I want to see the live gig on December 9th here in Stockholm (Solna, to be precise), Sweden.

Wait, the epic isn't divided into tracks, is it? That would suck.

"prepare to be pleasantly surprised by the album. It's got a contemporary edge but it's not 90125. If you're a Yes fan the chances are you'll be more than happy with Fly From Here."
That's a quote from the magazine Classic Rock Presents Prog---the record will be reviewed in their next issue.
As a life long Yes fan, I'm excited to hear the new music---my hope is to not miss Jon too much. The title's of the songs
already sound like something JA would not come up with.

Good question--but past Yes records had sections written in the same way, but the music flowed from one part to the next.

I agree when you burn it to your ipod.
Does anyone know of a program that joins all these epics together?

Why on Earth would 90125 pop up in mind when thinking of "contemporary"? Is that the moment in time where YES members are stuck?

I agree Alex. It's a really strange comment in regard to an album that is, at the end of the day, about 30 years old now.
If they can come up with something as exciting and as ground breaking as 90125, though, I will be happy. I'm not holding my breath, though.

I do this. Make sure you're working with a lossless format such as wav or flac if you don't want to lose quality. There is an option in the program Foobar when you're converting to merge the tracks into a single file.
