Yes, the singer can sound like a whiny, girly-man

Yes, they are usually considered to be an emo-band because of the high vocals and their audience

Yes, compared to other classic prog bands, there are little similarities

But...

Should Coheed and Cambria be considered a worthy edition to the archives? My thought is yes. Take for instance the story that spans their CDs. The story of Coheed and Cambria will span the band's entire career (the names Coheed and Cambria are simply characters in the story); to story itself is pure sci-fi channel goodness, concerning an alternate universe with strange creatures and political unrest.

As for the music...while some of it is poppy, and a lot of it seems to be catered towards teenagers (their obvious target audience, as that holds the biggest market), there are also very many sublime, proggy moments. What other emo-punkish band would write two 8 minute songs with tempo and mood changes (The Mars Volta, an entirely different beast, notwithstanding)? For me, Coheed and Cambria are one the best genre-bending bands around. I positively hate the emo scene, yet I love these guys!

Any fans or enemies of the band: should they be considered by inclusion in the prog archives?

Yes! I love Coheed and Cambria. When I bought there albems I at first
considered them to be more "Emo" but soon it became aparrent that they
are quite "Prog"

These guys DEFINITELY belong.  Their big single, http://www.coheedandcambria.com/media/coheed_and_cambria-a_favor_house_atlantic.mp3 - A Favor House Atlantic , seems simple on the surface, but it pretty difficult to play and explored great ideas for a "pop single"...  and the singer is a dead ringer for Geddy Lee at times.  As for their concepts, longer songs, and stuff...  VERY proggy...  I love the time changes on Velorium Camper Trilogy: Al The Killer.

My thoughts exactly, I was very into Rush when I found Coheed
and fell in love, they are a great prog act with enough pop appel for the
masses

They're a hell of a lot proggier than Rush have been in decades, and that's the truth.

I loved the hidden track 2113, laughed alittle when I saw the name of the
title.

Of course, but that's not saying much.

I have to say Coheed and Cambria are one of the worst sounding bands I've ever heard. Just sheer trash

I believe I once heard a few songs from them. It sucked and didn't have anything to do with prog. If it is necessary to keep them away from this site, I will listen again and make a more solid judgement .
