Just thinking about the show last night and what won. How much they put into the ads prior to the show and what they put into them after they win. Does it really matter if a movie is good if it wins or loses? How many good to great movies go unnoticed due to too many good movies that year.

I'm generally suspicious about movies that have won or been nominated for Oscars.

Clap

i guess awards for media or art are interesting in a general sense and its always entertaining when they agree with you or when they disagree with you to an extreme degree but in general i don't hold that kind of prestige in any kind of prestige.

Among other things, yes.

I went with no, but sometimes, I haven't heard about a film before it was nominated or won an oscar, so I might check out the trailer. If it looks up my alley, I could definitely watch it.

I find it interesting how some movies can win multiple awards and be totally ignored by the ticket buying public. Case in point Ed Wood.. No one saw it and it is a cult classic now.

Maybe.

I was aware of "True Grit" and "Black Swan" being nominated for best film and I thought I'd have a go at them.

"Black Swan" was rather...surprising LOL
Pretty good overall.

"True Grit" was better, in my opinion. Like a solid B grade.

Hi,

I have written Foreign and Art Film reviews and you can find almost 200 of these on the Internet Movie Database, and if I EVER stop writing bullpucky on PA, I might get the other 300 uploaded,  as well as add them to my website.

All in all, my style is cruise the Film Festivals, and NEVER watch the American  or English film ... because that will be available in video or released soon. It's the Papa New Guinea film that you will never see or hear from again, that you gotta see, to find some of the niftiest gems you will ever enjoy.

I take the same attitude for music.

It's tough though. As time goes by, your style and appreciation of things changes, and it makes you an outcast, because you will not spend your time kissing the commercial or social mores around you ... because in the end they are boring, repetitive ... you know the rest!

-------------
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!
