Hi!

First, the search function doesn't seem to work. Whatever I search for gives no results.

Searching seems to be the only way to know which topics I have been posting in (if it had worked).

Ideally I think that on my page (or "member control panel"), there should be links to topics I have been active in, during the last month or so, or at least the 5 latest topics. That would be easier than searching through the different forums and trying to remember were I posted.

Fast response! Smile

I have been trying to check out my own posting history. Lets say I put "wilmon91" on "Search by User Name ". No hits!  Adding keywords or changing the time span doesnt help..

What helps sometimes is 'Show results as Topics' instead of 'Posts'.

In case you want to monitor a topic, you can select 'Watch this topic' under topic options, top right corner of the topic page. Topics that you monitor in that way will be listed under Subscriptions in your Member Control Panel, and you will be notified by e-mail of new posts.

Okay I did a mistake. It's default set to search in "topic subject"
I see also a box with "Search for Topics This Member Started ".

When I change those toforum body and uncheck "topic subject" , it works.

Maybe that could be the default setting? It would be more natural.

I still think it would be neat with having links to, say, the 5 latest topics I have been active in.

Oh, and if the forum search doesn't show what you are looking for, try the Google Search on the main page, and set the selection box to forums. It finds more than the forum search sometimes, but the downside is that the Google information is only updated once every 24 hours, so you will miss a lot of results from 'Today'.

That could be the solution....I just have to keep it in mind. Thanks!

Fair enough. I'll tip M@X (the site owner) about the search defaults. He's also investigating whether we can move to new forum software, which may have the 'last 5 topics feature', which is not included in Web Wiz, which we use right now.

Maybe, but searching is very hard on the servers, so Max needs to encourage people to search thread titles instead of all the individual posts.

I would also welcome a change in software: we're the only forum I've ever seen use Web Wiz, and I suspect there's a good reason nobody else wants it...

The default is set the way it is because searching within the message uses a lot more server resource. Geek

It is. Go to member control panel, and then click on Subscriptions. A list should appear with all the topics you ever posted,  (except for those where you manually turned off 'watch this topic' option).

That's a different thing Bob - nobody can search in messages. I only pointed out that for some weird reason (a bug probably) the display option 'Show as Posts' gives different results than 'Show as Topics'.
As for searching inside messages, that is solved very well by the Google search.

Did you keep that one in your Subscription list all these years? If not, I quite miss the joke here...

You are behind the times, Max allowed to search in message bodies after the upgrade. And I'm glad he was able to without the servers crashing because Google is extremely unwieldy for searching within posts. I noted somewhere or other the bug in the difference between show as posts and show as threads, but I guess it was too inherent for Max to fix because I never heard back from anyone.

There is a list of all the threads you have posted in.

It is in Member Control Panel (top of this page in the light blue bar just before "xx New Messages") - from that panel select "Subscriptions"

Yup. it's just that I have to subcribe to every topic I'm active in, and I'm not interested in email notices (there will be too many). But I'll try subcribing, and see how it goes!

You don't receive an email for every post made in a thread, only for the first one made after your last visit in that day, so if there are a stream of posts and you don't open the thread you will only receive 1 email.

No, it had expired. But thanks anyway. (I know how to use the search now, so it's allright)
