Hi my name is addison im 20

I play drums in a Prog/rock/metal electronica band named Punching Robots

My drumming style is influenced by such drummers as Thomas lang, benny greb, jojo mayer, marco minnemann. virgil donati and more recently travis orbin (Sky eats airplane)

I listen to Dream theater, Protest the hero, the fall of troy, mastodon, sky eats airplane, meshuggah and periphery

The reason i got into prog/tech was as my knowledge and skill improved on the drums i wanted to hear more bands with a heavy emphasis on musicanship, at the time dream theater were the band i previously knew to have that level of musicanship and it was a cascading effect from there

the reason i joined the forums was to improve my knowledge-base of prog styles, and to get feedback on my playing and play style also my compositions and ofcourse my bands material!

(Also whilst scrolling down i saw some topics about gear? which will be usefull seeing as we are a young band who are self produced and im pretty much the Engineer/mixer for our material and require all the knowledge i can get a hold of)

Peace.

Welcome to the prog fold Addison.  If you are interested, be sure to post more info about your band under the Unsigned Bands section.  Any links to MySpace or Facebook or any recorded music you would like to share with the community is always greatly appreciated.

What programs do you use? I can talk to some degree, as a lot of people can here, but if you want real studio tips, search for a mixing/recording form and get a foothold there, too.

Also, welcome.

We currently use logic pro 9, mainly for the synth plugins as all our tracks have synth (we are a three piece, bass, guitar, drums) and we really wanted a big epic sound  with strings and arpeggios flying about every which, to pull this off live i wear headphones and play to a click+synth track, the guys then obviously play off me so the audience hears 3 piece band + synth thtrough front of house speakers we really like the freedom it gives us in our writing, but the obvious drawbacks our 100 of hours practicing to make sure we can play these odd time tracks to a ever changing click :P

Thank you for all your kind welcomes by the way, you guys are awesome :D
