in my opinion , only one thing is missing in PA , it's an extention to all underrated bands & artists that was active since the mid 60's with a real flavor of progressive ! Jazz , Blues , Rock or even pop . we owe these people a little respect in this matter . So , to whom it may concern , for God sake give your opinions in this , and list your bands & artists to be somehow in a << Related blues , jazz , pop & country - folk to Progressive Spirit >> and thank you in advance for sharing in such difficult choice !

"Progressive spirit" would be even more ludicrous to define than progressive rock. Max has said there's going to be a jazz archives up in early 2011, which I am looking forward to, but assembling every forward thinking musician from all time would be impossible. It would be easier to list the well known musicians who would not be included in such a site.

If it was perfect nobody would spend time in trying to making it better. Perfection is bad. Long life to mistakes.

In my opinion the scope of "Prog" is already quite stretched in PA. It's fine for me, but I don't think that stretching it even more including many more "prog-related" music would be a good idea.
I would welcome a section of pictures but probably it would be difficult to avoid running into copyright issues if the pics collection grew significantly.

How about a chatroom with the option of sending anyone who disagrees with you an electric shock through the keyboard?
Otherwise I enjoy it just exactly as it is. Yes, I'm completely satisfied with this site.

Great site, the best,
Though I might like some of the album lists (year list, genre lists,...) to be sorted on lowest and least rated instead of most and highest rated. That might make things a lot more exciting.
Cheers now!

In all seriousness - do you know when a person is joking? I mean none of my posts here on this thread are to be taken seriously. Anyone can see that. Yet you think I am actually trying to get you upset. I learn its important to laugh at yourself occasionally or you will have a miserable time around here. We are always here poking fun at each other and whats wrong with a bit of humour? Anyone concur with that?

Speaking of alcohol, I really like PA but I think most of the frisson generated on the forums is caused by what we think is pure Prog (single malt) being superior to erm...progressive music (blended malts)
BTW Both have the power to intoxicate
For me at any rate, PA has reached something of a crossroads where it's much too late to go back to an exclusive policy for admissions and we should perhaps concede that the site will continue to mutate and evolve into a portal for all types of rock genres that its members deem worthy of inclusion by sheer dint of the music's originality, innovation and unorthodoxy etc.
e.g. I can imagine the likes of say Patti Smith, Television, The Fall, Magazine, The Cure and Wall of Voodoo happily co-existing in the future with the the core bands like Yes, ELP, Crimson, Genesis etc
We needn't necessarily think of the future representing a dilution, think of it as a mixer (or a cocktail)

Something like that ... and perhaps design/define a "chart" like .... (can't remember his name) did on that one discussion about the definition and such ... and it would help. I think that sometimes we have these sub-genre's but the relationships and connections are in one's mind, and these should be more visible, to help us all see the connections better, and not think that ... you gotta be kidding me!

The problem is that we're limiting the artistic design and feelings in the artists, and I am not sure that is a good thing to do. Some of these became more "popular" than the others, and I am not sure I would not consider Patti Smith "progressive" (Radio Ethiopia sure is!), mostly because we are strictly comparing her music to Yes, ELP and KC and Genesis, and refusing to accept that other things can be progressive, and immediatly add a sub-genre, so that we do not get that royal carpet stained!
I do think, and stated before, that we are being way too limiting on these curmudgeons, and that they are not, and were not, the only ones that were exploring and created something different ... and that is a position that is very difficult to help people understand music, its history, and its application in the time and place, that helped create it in the first place.
In essence, what Patti (or Laurie, or many other NY'rs) were doing, is no different than what these royals did ... but it's not gonna get the respect because we have holed ourselves up in a corner and defined a music style, instead of the artistry of it all. There is a difference. One is limiting, the other is not.

Yeah ... but are we doing that to the "royals". And the answer is ... nope, maybe?
The culprit in all this, is not the music or the art ... it is the proliferation of everything else and simply too much music to listen to and too many flavors. Those "royals" are big for us, because there was no one else doing it ... and today, some of them would get trashed viciously for the work ... I know that is a hard exercise, but if we heard Endless Enigma today, instead of 40 years ago ... the first thing we would all say is ... who the fudge do they think they are? ... we would get rather peed at the attitude, and turn around and say ... that's a terrible singer! ------------- Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told! www.pedrosena.com
