i think that the first 4 albums of queen are really prog, songs like march of the black queen or bohemian rhapsody are very complex and the vocals arrangements are incredibles.

Early Queen definitely progressive.

There are many bands who have had patches of Progressive rock but generally are not considered as such?

Radiohead? Porcupine Tree? The Smiths? Muse? Asia? ELO ? Super Furry Animals? Architecture in Helsinki? Bjork? Massive attack? The Orb?

Most of these have had moments of being either progressive in setting new standards or have recorded tracks that have had elements of progressive rock in them.

Good examples are In Absentia P. T., The Queen is dead by the Smiths, Vespertine by Bjork, Mwng by SFA,OK computer,Mezzanine by Massive Attack

All:

This discussion has been had ad nauseam.  The webmasters have made the decision that Queen is not prog, and thus will not be included on the site.

So chat away, but you're fighting an uphill battle...

Peace.

Queen II is a progressive masterpiece ... but IMHO Queen decided after that that they would continue as a popular rock/pop act with an unique twist. I love them, they're extraordinary.

They're not prog, they're ... QUEEN.

I really think the Queen albums should be archived, a lot of people don't want them here because they're very known, and not necessarily known as such for being prog giants, but there's no doubting it in my opinion, they're a very unique type of prog, but it's DEFINITELY prog.  There are bands here that are less prog than Queen...

I think they have prog elements but I wouldn't really consider them a prog band, more like pop or statdium rock :)

Love that willingness to compromise.
