Replace the "All equally" option?

Anyway, Radiohead would get my vote. The others haven't released anything as good as OK Computer or Kid A.

Funny thing about Radiohead, is that in their documentary Meeting People is Easy, someone asked them "Was the new album [OK Computer] at all inspired by bands like Genesis or Jethro Tull?" and someone (I think Collin) said, "No, we all HATE progressive rock music." It's funny because they were recently on the cover of Prog Rock Magazine, and they're constantly affiliated with that scene. Plus all of the synths and mellotron and whatever on their albums, it would make sense that they like prog.

My wife likes Muse, but I haven't really gotten into them. I am probably one of three people not to have heard Radiohead. I do have some PT. Perhaps I'll have to borrow one of my wife's Muse CD's.

3 of my favourite bands of the last 10 years

Of all the albums released I would take Muse - Absolution and Radiohead - Kid A over anything that Porcupine Tree have done. However if you take the whole catologue of releases then Porcupine Tree by a long margin over Radiohead with Muse a distant third.
(voted PT)

Great joke !

Not a fan of all three, but PT at least have few good prog rock albums. Radiohead are hardly prog, but some their releases are interesting as well. Muse was interesting MTV heavy wing's hero, anyway they are better than Nickelback .

No, not at all. If I didn't think they were all incredibly good, I wouldn't have made a poll comparing them. I will agree that Radiohead is not prog in the strictest sense but they're pretty experimental. Oh and Muse is better than most bands out there including, obviously, Nickelback.

They're incredibily pretentious, and probably consider themselves above classification,

It was even more cool in the 90's to distsnce yourself from prog than it is now. Radiohead were at a pivotal point in their their career when they did OK Computer. The last thing they wanted was for the music press to start making comparisons to prog rock.

Even looking formally Muse is tagged as prog-related on PA (what means NOT PROG), Radiohead are slightly different case, formally tagged as Crossover Prog (what in case of very inclusive PA Crossover term means often almost the same).

Interesting "truth" description BTW

Interesting "truth" description BTW
Formal placements are subjective assessments based upon a snapshot in time - this subjectivity is further emphasised because they were added by different teams at different times so there is no "formal" comparison between them impled or infered in the subgenres they have been placed in.

Porcupine Tree began in Psyche/Space based upon their first three albums, then were moved into Heavy (mainly because of Absentia/Deadwing/Blank Planet). Radiohead were added into the PA as Art Rock before the formation of the Crossover category - at that time there was no claim of inclusivity or ambiguity implied in their addition and additions made prior to the split cannot be judged by latter additions after the split.

If we were to evaluate all three artists based solely upon their last albums (The Incident, The Resistance and In Rainbows) then their "prog" hierarchy would be reordered - quite how far that goes is (again) subjective and how much each album is "prog" is pure conjecture since there are no empirical rules that can be applied to quaitify "progness" in any pragmatic way. Using some arbitary "standard" of Prog could place the order as Exogenesis --------- > Weird Fishes ------> Time Flies.

Does it matter who's actually prog and who's not? The genre doesn't matter here. Only the music. As long as it's a band listed on this site, it's fair game.

Though not a big fan of either, two months ago I was listening to a lot of Porcupine Tree, a great band, they're even in my Top 3 Last.fm charts! lol!

Muse I really don't like, while Radiohead has Kid A and Amnesiac as great albums for me but I'm not often in the mood for them.

Anesthetize is indeed a masterpiece but Radiohead also made some prog masterpieces like Paranoid Android and  Pyramid Song and Muse made prog masterpieces like New Born and Citizen Erased. I'm a big fan of Porcupine Tree. Don't get me wrong but compared to Muse and Radiohead, they just don't have as much diversity in their music. But I guess that's because PT is more traditional prog whereas Muse and Radiohead are "new-prog" or "prog-lite".

This is a tough one.  I freakin love P-Tree.   But I think I love Radiohead just a hairs breath more.  Two amazing bands.   It stands to reason that P-Tree would get more votes on a Prog site, because theyr'e more Proggy than Radiohead.  But Radiohead still qualifies.

I really want to like Muse (because I want to like as many modern Prog'ish bands as I can).  But I can't connect with them.   The songs sound "samey" and not nearly as adventurous as the two bands.    I literally can't figure out why they're so big...what are others hearing that I'm not?   I mean I don't care for Iron Maiden much either, but I can "hear" why some people might dig them a lot.   I don't get Muse.

But Muse moreso.

I heard some Muse and thought they will be just the thing for those who have not heard Queen or Rush...

Radiohead, well, they were so worried about being labelled (by theuK press and they know very well that a label can be a millstone in a fashion / ephemeral type world) as a prog band 'cause of punk negative connotations (stil!!)  that when an OK PC/Mac song finishes it sounds like an edit to me. As if they were afraid to develop their music instrumentally. DIsappointing ways to finish some good ideas... Kid A has some good moments - all thanks to the totally under-publicised European RIO /Avant scene. Still there's some hope for progressive rock in the mainstream.

P Tree. Thought the Incident was a non-Incident. Very disappointed. Mind you I was also  the one person who didn't like his solo album either. Still, with shed loads of great albums and lots of live issues/ DVDs/ oddities to fleece, er, I mean contribute to the fanbase's music collections P Tree get this still every which way.

But it's good to know bands try on many fronts to develop rock music. In fact with the music biz in it's 65% loss of $$$ in 10 years, artistic rock may be the ony way to go.

hahahahahaahahaahhahahaha good one!
Porcupine Tree. Muse is a decent band and Radiohead is a good one, but nothing compared to PT

Definitely Porcupine Tree! Steve Wilson is a genius! Radiohead is great in their own way, Muse kind of sounds like a copy of Radiohead in some cases, but they are alright.

Probably my three favorite bands at this point.

If you'd asked me two years ago, it would have been PT, hands down, no contest, by a country mile.

But then SW released a truly forgettable navel-gazing solo album, followed up with a meandering PT album that never found its groove.  When I first heard The Incident I gave it 2 out of 10 stars, and after many listens and four live shows, I give it 7 on a good day.

Muse is a fantastic live show.  I've now seen them three times.  The music itself  on the studio releases is kinda cheesy and OTT, but they are AMAZING live.

I've never seen Radiohead live, but I had the amazing experience of seeing PT and Muse live on the same day at Coachella 2010, and then Thom Yorke's Atoms for Peace band the following night.  A short daytime festival set did not show PT off at their best, but I've seen them over 20 times, and know how good they are live.  Muse ruled, and Thom Yorke KILLED.  He did the entire Eraser album, which is a very unfinished affair in its studio release, and nailed it, plus a bunch of stuff like Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses, Airbag, EiiRP, and Give up the Ghost (ended up on King of Limbs).  It was a nearly religious experience.

I'd have to say Radiohead at this point.  The new album is killer, particularly Codex, and I've been obsessively playing Kid A, Amnesiac, OK Computer and In Rainbows for the past months.  Can't wait to finally see them live, whenever it is that they tour.

Can't really choose between Radiohead and Porcupine Tree. Two of my favorite bands ever.

Radiohead? Revolutionary? Are you kidding? They are VERY derivative and haven't really done anything but synthesis, and not in a best way. Simple and primitive enough to get understood by masses, but slightly different from most other bands, enough for "Oh my god that is so Experimental and Unique!". Is the case with most of RH fans I know in real life, unfortunately. It even goes to extent of naming "Kid A" the best electronic album ever, lol

PT is just a good prog band, their music is more fine and complex.

IMO,  PT >>> RH > Muse

Radiohead, in my opinion... I've probably listened to "OK Computer" more times than any other album (cassette FTW).

Gobdamn it, Kid A IS the best electronic album ever. Well, that and Vangelis' Blade Runner Soundtrack.

I chose Radiohead for Kid A and Amnesiac. They're are some of the greatest albums I ever heard.
