Juicy Lucy, The Alexis Korner Blues Band, Zoot Money's Big Roll Band and John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers. Sorry Dick, that's more than two. Ooops, again. What did you think of his singing? I liked the tunes he did with Allan, though he has a more Blues/Rock oriented voice, Allan needed a jazzier approach. Jack Bruce was perfect on the two Road Games tracks he sang on. Who would you have chosen to be Allan's IOU vocalist? No changes to instrumentation or lyrics, just vocals. I'd like to hear from OWL, maani and Alexander regarding the same questions. Or anyone else familiar with the IOU band. |

There was a rumour doing the rounds that because Williams had independently issued that live IOU album, without notifying Holdsworth, that William's vocal tracks could have disappeared off the "Road Games" remaster/reissued CD, in favour of the Bruce alternatives. Alas this rumour didn't prove true. However, there was a very fruitful period in the late 80's and early 90's when Jack Bruce's voice was superb (as on "Road Games", Bruce's own "A Question of Time", albums he did for Michael Mantler and Kip Hanrahan, and his own solos for CMP Records) - I think he was putting a lot of his formal music training in practice.
Back to the quiz: Danbo as I've said before you know too much - however, there is a late 70's album under Dick Heckstall-Smith's name (the CD reissue also has live version of the studio tracks) where Williams, is one of three vocalists, a nother is the late Graham Bond. |
