I'm doing quite a bit of these now, mainly because I'm bored.

Cog are an Australian progressive alternative band. I am really suprised that they are not on this site already. They have 3 albums I think.

Cradle Of Filth, basically because they have a very progressive extreme element to them, and I don't think anyone has ever thought of them as "prog influenced"

Cradle of Filth probably won't be included, because even the legendary Emperor aren't included yet. Emperor frontman's solo project http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2686 - Ihsahn

Tech/Extreme Prog Metal

, however, is included.

wow, people really don't like Cradle Of Filth, and the only reason I said them was a. I was a bit bored, and b. I'm a massive Filth fan

And I don't mean bored, I mean uninspired to do actual work, but inspired to do these.

I'm gonna fail my A levels, but by that time I shud be Oprah rich, hopefully

and why is Emperor on here, and Ishahn is. I can see some experimental reasons, but if Enslaved & Opeth are on here, I think Emperor should be as well

Cradle has a few progressive elements and progressed the extreme metal scene to new heights, but this is about prog music, not necesssarily progressive music as a whole.

You know that PA has a sister site, Metal Music Archives, for dealing with metal bands right?

Cradle Of Filth ? Symph BM.

Why not ? We already have BM bands in PA : Ulver, Enslaved, Arcturus, Negura Bunget, Drudkh and many others.

Dusk and her embrace is a 5-star album. I like them as well, not their whole discography but principles, dusk and midian are great albums.

I prefer Cruelty & The Beast & Damnation & A Day, they excelt at concept albums.

Never really liked Dusk to be honest, Danis voice wasnt as powerfull, some good songs tho.

How come some prog related bands like Muse & Metallica are one here, and aren't actually prog, but a genuine prog band like Cog are rejected.

This website has some very corrupt politics

you shouldn't say that - unfortunately you're misinformed Ouch and don't know how we are working
when a band is rejected by a team it's the result of a democratic process based on votes.

I didn't agree that Cog were rejected, but I have to accept this decision .. and I would be a fool to claim that this is corrupt ... and nobody can prevent me from listening to Cog whenever I want ... simple as that Smile

but they are a prog band, thats like if everybody decided to not have Genesis on the website, It' just be odd

genesis is a classic prog band, while Cog isn't there are many (MANY) bands that have prog influence, but aren't on the site. Cog (in my opinion) is more alternative than prog. alternative in some ways had prog influence, but often not enough to get on here

COF is clearly an Xover band, can't you see?

Posted By: Windhawk
Date Posted: September 20 2010 at 15:09
Really?

As the Crossover team doesn't agree with you on that one, would you care to explain in further detail how the compositional structure, the crafting of arrangements and the instrumental provess by the band makes them suitable for the genre?

Or if there are other factors in terms of instrumentation or experimental attitudes the core members of the xover team have failed to notice?

Please elaborate, in as much detail as possible. We're anxiously awaiting your extended knowledge and detailed analysis of this particular case.

I've never heard the band, so can't comment on whether they should be on the site or not, but looking at ProgFreak they don't appear to have been voted on by a sub group who uses it

but ignore the 'Course Over Ground' album that they have listed on there...It's actually by another Cog - from Croatia, and you can also hear that one on bandcamp if you really want to (not really recommended though!): http://moonleerecords.bandcamp.com/album/course-over-ground" rel="nofollow - http://moonleerecords.bandcamp.com/album/course-over-ground .

'The New Normal' album by the Aussie Cog is also on myspace: https://myspace.com/cogrockmusic/music/songs" rel="nofollow - https://myspace.com/cogrockmusic/music/songs .

Edit: - It's all on spotify too - but again, the Croatian Cog's album 'Course Over Ground' has been lumped in with the genuine stuff: http://open.spotify.com/artist/6gD6Pm7jo3mmKgDtyMruA6" rel="nofollow - http://open.spotify.com/artist/6gD6Pm7jo3mmKgDtyMruA6  Smile

Interesting - but I couldn't ever see them on the site as they are too alternative to my ears. I certainly couldn't ever recommend them to Crossover

COG sounded post-rock(ish) to me (not suggesting they fit PA, I don't know)

As for CoF, well....Censored
