Hi!
Besides Prog Metal, what kind of metal do you like?
I really like Heavy Metal, and I sometimes listen to some power metal, or some Epic doom metal.

You should have a Glam Metal option, even though I hate that subgenre. I would say Heavy Metal, but also Trash and a bit of everything.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I'm not a fan of metal in general at all. Without a progressive twist, I find it so one dimensional most of the time... It's funny to consider that despite metal being one of my favourite genres, I could neither call myself a fan, nor do I enjoy 98% of what I've heard. Still, no disrespect to the style - there are so many talented musicians in the field, it's hard not to tip your hat to it.

So let me suggest Aghast Insane to trash metal lovers.
They are often inspired by the darkest Italian novelist, Valerio Evangelisti who has wtitten the lyrics of their "Mater Terribilis" and has dedicated to them his last novel.

So let me suggest reading the Eymerich cicle, too (it has been translated into several lanuages).

I like Melodic Death Metal, but Brutal Death Metal doesn't do much for me. Symphonic metal can be considered progressive. I like all subgenres to a certain extent. Black metal can get pretty goddamn boring, though.

Tuatha de Danann are considered epic-metal. I suggested them for inclusion but they've been rejected.
Regardless the genre, give them a look.

Doom, Power (strange... Doom and Power are opposite forms of metalErmm, whatever...) and a bit Death and Trash.

Stating "I like prog metal but I also like heavy metal" seems too redundant for me (although I do understand that the Heavy Metal option surely stands for the classic metal acts. Mainly the NWOBHM bands). Because of that I will go with thrash metal. Megadeth and Sepultura being my favorites bands of the genre.

Doom for the most part, but also a couple of Death metal and Black metal bands.

Since we're on a related topic...how "genre happy" are you guys?
It kind of bugs me, so I consolidate.
I have  metal, thrash, death, prog, technical, alternative if it doesn't really fit into one I bump into "metal" or if its different and not really classifiable I just bump it into "prog metal" if I dont think its "alt metal"
Oh and I do have industrial and black metal, but I dont really like those genres and think I may have one band for each...

ZOMG! Same here!
Actually SOAD was my favorite band in HS, I still like em. RAGM is good as well. I personally have them listed as "alternative metal" on my mp3.

Alternative is alternative. Primus does not need "funk metal"  LOL
oh and I used to have LoG and Pantera as "groove metal" but again I bumped them into "metal" recently

And CZ, I dont know actually. I didnt really listen to music at the age of 13, just smash mouth and w/e was around LOLCry No one told me about SOAD... I remember that much.

Now that boggles my mind.....

And yes SOAD was my fav band all through HS, thanks to Tony Hawk 4
I still like them, surprised after all this time and so much expansion in my musical taste.

The lyrics are still great, but alot of the "anti bush" stuff feels so dated now LOL
Though I actually like the music more than I did then!

Man, I never could decide between System of a Down, or Toxicity.
If someone made me choose, Id probably go Toxicity.

Oh and captain, "Groove Metal" is considered "post thrash" or basically med tempo thrash, with more groove than technicality, though its still there. Geek Metal Nerd!
So Thrash for LoG isn't really that strange

The Asphyx created by singer Martin Van Drunen after his departure of Pestilence? They're here for a while, but I never listened to them, even if some pals at the university recommended them. Another death-metal veteran band that I never checked...

I vote for No Metal, though I'm not sure. Symphonic and Folk Metal might be interesting now and then...

^No Metal : a fusion of metal and the music of Nô, the japanese traditional opera. Cool.

Okay, you jokers. If you really want to see others categories of metal that hadn't been added to this poll, here's a choice of mine, some words that I really saw printed in magazines or written in blogs at least twice :
 - War Metal
 - Love Metal (remember HIM?)
 - Supreme Vampyric Evil (Dani Filth is nearly funny sometimes)
 - Cyber Punk Sado Metal (courtesy of the mad Finnish band Impaled Nazarene)
 - Shred Metal (a small French created this one to describe their music)
 - True Prouvençau Black Metal

Thrash metal!  Especially for Slayer and Kreator, two of my favorite bands, as well as the excellent Sodom, Destruction, Dark Angel, Megadeth, Metallica's 80s material, Evile...well, actually pretty much the entire genre kicks ass except for Anthrax.LOL

I like Anthrax!
Though Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer are rawkin.

I have Time Does not Heal by Dark Angel. Interesting stuff.

I guess I'll say death metal, but all the death metal I like is also progressive.
