I've never done this before but I recommend some live Weather Report and Jaco Pastorius as an example of why Weather Report is Jazz fusion and Return to Forever is prog.

Why isn't Weather Report in prog archives but Mahavishnu is? Is the secret ingredient guitar? I don't get it.

Chick Corea and Zawinul are similar, as is Jan Hammer, but you don't see Zawinul respected in progressive rock because he played with Miles? Wait a minute, didn't John play with Miles too?

See? It makes no sense.

Anyways, check out the Report. That was my recommendation.

Sweetnighter?

Yeah, Sweetnighter. My favourite is either Black Market or Heavy Weather. I also think Night Passage is spectacular too. Sweetnighter, Mr. Gone and maybe 830 are lesser, but still stellar.

Weather Report aren't here?  Just for their sheer musicianship they should be...Zawinul, Shorter, and Pastorius were always quality.

I recently found a DVD of that line-up, it's quite a treat seeing Jaco in action as well as in his prime...I believe it's a '78 show.

Yeah, why isn't Weather Report here? That doesn't make a lot of sense. Some others should be here too....Tony William's Lifetime...Herbie Hancock's Headhunters....Miles Davis' 70's era at least needs to be mentioned..

Weather Report kicks all ass. I'm quite surprised to learn that they aren't on the site!

I thought Weather Report were here but they aren't...ah well..

Yeah 'Black Market' is a superb album; one of THE best fusion albums ever made, and in my opinion, only 'Birds Of Fire' by Mahavishnu Orchestra comes close.
