Hi.  I joined about a year ago - a little hello and thank you for such a great site.

I'm in my (very) late 30s, hail from Boston, and have been listening to prog rock and jazz for as long as I can remember.  Although my influential high school years were the mid-late 80s, my head was planted squarely in the 70s.  I always considered Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Rush (all the usual suspects) among my favorites, but that was pre-Archives.  Since finding PA, I've been exploring (at great expense and none too casually) everything I missed along the way.  Italian prog rock in particular!!

Since June 2009 (around the time I joined PA), I've been to see VDGG, Tony Levin's Stick Men, Zappa Plays Zappa, Eddie Jobson, Belew, PT, Karmakanic, the Don & Bunk show, and most recently, Hackett and Renaissance.  Small venues (except PT) - very intimate shows.

What else?  I'm a very out-of-practice piano player.  I traded the long hair for suits & ties many years ago - my job is dull but pays for the music, concerts, and occasional track time (aspiring race car driver - I'll never get beyond hobbyist).  And my girlfriend listens primarily to metal.  I do not listen to metal.  Although we do cross paths occasionally - I even caught her listening to Marillion... twice!

I hope to spend some more time here as a participant, and there's an ambitious plan in me somewhere to write lots and lots of reviews...

Andrew

Exactly what I was going to say!
Considering you love this band, you probably would have fun discovering rock in opposition, avant-progressive and zeuhl bands. It's good to have you on board!
Cheers,

Gabriel

Thanks for finally speaking up! LOL
Make up for lost time and polish off 1000 reviews/posts a day, like half of the people that already use the site!

Yeah, the Arachnoid is a favorite - music & cover art.

Tsevir - I'm not sure where my head was when I originally posted, but I'm a bigger Zappa nut than any of the bands listed.  Also, John Zorn, Fred Frith, Dr. Nerve...

Courtesy of the archives, I've since discovered a bit of Zeuhl - picked up Dun, Eskaton (4 Visions), Shub-Niggurath (Les Morts) and Top (Infernal), plus the Magma studio box set.  I think that's a pretty fair introduction!

How's 6 posts and 1 review?  Only took me a year... Tongue

Question for all - is the personal 'progressive biography' only for the elite reviewer/collaborator?

Thanks!  I haven't touched the Japanese psych yet, but I did recently get a hold of a few recommended titles from Polyphony, Sensations' Fix, Ragnarok and Nektar - all excellent.  I'm having a difficult time, however, coming to terms with Eloy (depending on the album)...

Andrew, really enjoyed reading your Italian prog reviews... great to have another RPI fan on board. Have you checked out the All Prog From Italy Appreciation thread yet? Drop by and say ''hi'' to the rest of the guys Tongue, Chris.

Oh, the appreciation thread has just been locked (over-sized!), although you can now visit the (new) Italian Prog appreciation den.
