I am proud to announce the publication of my book 'Yes in Australia'. Packed with 32 pages of photos and graphics including previously unpublished pro concert shots from the 1973 'Close to the Edge' tour when Yes were arguably at their peak and from the 2003 'Full Circle Tour', this book is the definitive description of the two Yes tours to Australia. It features Roger Dean's 'Pathways' on the cover.  The 1973 tour has achieved legendary status amongst Australian fans. Despite touring regularly all over the world, it would be 30 years before they returned down under. The 2003 tour was very much a story of how a group of Australian Yes fans found each other, formed YesFANZ, found Yes again, and then enticed them back to Australia along with Roger Dean the legendary artist responsible for most of their iconic record covers and logos. This book chronicles both of the Yes tours and attempts to put them both in context of the times in which they occurred.

This is an interesting looking project.
I once met a musician from Australia, can't remember his name but he was one of the nicest guys I ever met. He was playing a bar in Philly, and was on a self-funded tour of the US. He kept saying how much nicer and friendlier musicians were in Australia, that they really helped to support each other and the scene. Here, he said, it was like the scene cannibalized itself. Granted, he was more of an indie than prog guy.
He also said it was fairly easy to achieve a certain level of success in Australia but that once you got it, it was hard to move on without attempting to break globally.
My friends and I helped him carry his equipment, and he was genuinely shocked because he said we were the first nice people he'd met in the US.
I always wondered how much truth there was to what he said.
He played a Jeff Buckley cover too, and it was great.

I regularly travel to the US and have always found the people friendly. I'm not a muso but I do know a few American musos and they have been very friendly with me.
Sounds like a very atypical experience that Australian had.

Congrats, it looks like a fascinating book! I suppose you took many of the concert pics yourself? How I envy you that you managed to see the band at this time!
By the way, strange that Yes didn't return until 2003... I always thought they felt at home there, since Steve Howe sings about Australia (AND about my native country, Belgium) in such glowing terms (but not exactly glowing tones  ) on BEGINNINGS...

The 1973 concert photos were taken by Philip Morris, the 2003 photos were mainly Robert Forbes (Melbourne) and Ron Huban (Sydney). I took one of the photos from Melbourne plus a lot of the Meet & Greet photos.
As to Yes waiting 30 years to return to Australia - I could not find a clear reason for that - it seemed a set of circumstances without intent. They had been signed to return in 1974 - but Wakeman's departure led to that being cancelled. Anyhow, that is part of the story in the book.....

Congratulations on getting yourself published Brian. It looks fascinating. I'm presently finishing off a book myself (non prog), which is why I haven't been reviewing at all lately on the site. I have already had one novel failed to get published, so I know how difficult it is. This latest one, though, will be a smash hit  ------------- Enhance your life. Thank you - but as you know it is hard to get niche work published so I had to self-publish this book. It was very much a labour of love (and money!) but I have no regrets as I sam very happy with the final product.
I have other non-musical books published in the health area - in fact have one coming out soon for the general public about Alzheimer's disease.
I contemplated writing a novel 40 years ago - but that was as far as it got.

Yes didn't tour Australia much because they are all vegetarians! Congratulations upon your dedication to the band! I'm fortunate to have caught most of their tours, starting with the CTTE tour in 1973. Amazing band! There are some rather remarkable protoge bands, like Fragile, in the UK. Does Oz have any band that covers Yes? I'd think it would be popular.
