Took in a fine concert last evening (courtesy of comp tickets from my dear friend Billy King) and, on a night that should have been sweltering in the Texas heat, we got cool breezes and sprinkles thanks to a nearby thundercloud and the weather couldn't have been more perfect for a show at an amphitheater.
The Doobs were incredibly tight and both Tom and Patrick were in excellent voice. I was impressed with their new material and they rocked the house with their hits. Chicago was their usual professional selves and they opened with "Girl from Buchanan" which really pleased the progger in me no end. Gotta say, though, I missed Bill Champlin greatly and their harmonies suffered from him not being in the mix. (Same goes for Michael McDonald with the DBs but he's been gone from them for ages now). They combined their talents for the last set and it was a fantastic blend of musicians having a joyful time on stage.
My wife and I have suffered through two deaths in the immediate family in the last month and that concert was precisely what we needed to lift our spirits. Music has the power to soothe and heal and last night confirmed it for me yet again. I'm convinced that God gave it to us for just that purpose and it never fails me.
