Akkerman was a baby.

At least van Leer still ha the band still going and Hocus Pocus ha hit number 57 on the British charts!

This is the band that got me into this stupid prog thing in the first place. Over 5000 albums later. At last count.

I'm not sure what your point is.   It is not at all unusual for these bands to come apart after a bit of success, with very few examples of bands staying tight throughout their history.

Yes routinely flies apart, Wishbone Ash is now with TWO touring Wishbone Ash bands, etc.

Can you be a bit more specific?  BTW, I saw Focus in 1972, they were brilliant!

If you're asking whom I prefer, it's Thijs van Leer by a nose.  They're both wonderful musicians, but van Leer is more creative and original and he has an unparalleled sense of humor.

Thijs Van Leer is as mad as a box of frogs but a thoroughly lovely man and brilliant musician.

Jan Akkerman is probably my favorite guitarist,an immense talent.

Fascinating thread!  I've fallen out of touch with Focus, as they don't seem to play in the US much, but they were a huge influence on me in my youth.

"Moving Waves" is an amazing work, very emotional!

Is Van Leer leading a new version of Focus, then?  All these 70's gents are getting up in the years, my hat is off to those who are still touring!

Ooph, do I have to choose? I love them both. Van Leer is a terrific composer, and the keeper of the Focus flame. Akkerman is quite skilled as well, and close to being my favourite guitar player of all time (though Steve Howe is winning by a nose length).

I refuse to choose as well Disapprove

Hi,

I will either get Focus with both of them or I will not get Focus!

And I want another Hamburger Concerto despite the Prog Archives folks not appreciating a good feeling in their stomach when listening to it! Or humor, for that matter!Clap

I'd like to see van Leer & Akkerman fight it out, preferably bare-knuckle, in a pub car-park.

Ouch
