From the list, Spongebob. Way more intelligent than people give it credit for. Amazing voice acting and even better writing. The Simpsons is clearly the most important, but Spongebob is the best. I do also have to give you credit for adding Wacky Races to the list because that's an underrated classic.
The only other animated show that I might consider to be the best of all time is The Boondocks, which is one of the most clever satires of all time.

I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddling kids and their dog named Scooby-Doo.

I love several cartoons and i never growes old of it I can stil watch comics with a lot of childish features without feeling ambarresed, I love Tom and Jerry, Disney series (Donald, Goofey, Duck Tales, Aladdin, Lilo and Stitch and so on), Mumin troll series, the Animals of the Farthing Wood,
Im also of the Pokèmon generation so I have watched that one as well (and love it), I like Spongebob imensly, Simpsons are legendary, South Park are above all and should be studied at universities in political studies and satire.
I have a bit of a childish taste when it comes to comics things with magic, humor i like a lot.

I like the old Hanna Barbara (sp?) cartoons from way back. Simpsons obviously are huge. King of the Hill is a fave. I still like Beavis and Butthead on occasion.

Ren & Stimpy I loved. I have no idea about best, but two that have have a special place in my heart from my childhood are Space Battleship Yamato and especially the Return to the Planet of the Apes cartoon series (though a short-lived series), so voting other. I also liked the Star Trek cartoon, Spiderman very much, Scooby Doo, and The Hulk (from the 60's) has the best theme song ever!
{Edit embedding was disabled so a url instead, re-edit, which was a broken link, what a doofus I am, fixed. Hope it's a little trip down memory lane for some that haven't seen it in a long time}
Since you ask for favourite character too -- I don't really have one. Still, I'll keep in line with Planet of the Apes and choose Dr. Zaius.

For me probably Robot Chicken, which is stop motion, not CGI (CGA?) so probably doesn't count. My wife is a huge huge huge King Of The Hill fan. I guess Aqua Teen Hunger Force is out. I think they use CGI (CGA?). The Boondocks. I get most of my cartoon fix from Adult Swim these days. http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/ - http://www.adultswim.com/ - http://www.adultswim.com/ Prog metal fans should definitely check out this: http://www.adultswim.com/shows/metalocalypse/index.html - http://www.adultswim.com/shows/metalocalypse/index.html

Oh right! Mumin are also one of the best cartoons ever. How could I have forgotten to vote for them

Ahh, the good ol' days of good cartoon shows. My vote goes, unquestionably, to Scooby Doo thus 'Other'.
However, nowadays the only 'cartoon' show I watch is Family Guy.

I've got two favourites, both animated series from my childhood.. I still love them after all these years
First of all, the brilliant Dutch/Japanese cartoon (technically anime, but not typically anime) that I grew up with, Alfred Jodocus Kwak. Probably the only cartoon that teaches kids about the dangers and absurdity of Hitler and nazism in a subtle, yet ironic way. Other treated subjects are racism and poverty, without the series ever becoming boring at all.
The second one is The Animals of Farthing Wood. My love of nature probably originated from watching these series.

A vote for the underrated Jetsons here, just closely before the Flintstones. The Pink Panther, Top Cat and Popeye are on #3, #4 and #5. None of the cartoon series of the 2000's can match any of those we watched in the late 60's.

They did make tv series of T&J but they were originally made for the big screen - hence 13 Oscar nominations and 7 wins.

During seasons 3-8 of The Simpsons the show was the greatest comedic sitcom in the history (this isn't to denigrate seasons 1 and 2 when the series was finding its voice) of televsion, animated or not. Decent episode came out of seasons 9 and 10 but with most of the show's creative force leaving for Futurama, The Simpsons was left in the hands of incompetents who have subsequently destroyed it. Unfortunantly, due to the money it still brings in (lord knows how with this quality), The Simpsons has been allowed to drag on as a gargling, zombie corpse of its former self begging for sweet, merciful death. Having grown up loving this show dearly it is now physically and mentally painful for me to watch what has been done to The Simpsons over this last decade. At this point, the least FOX could do is end the show, the decent thing they could do is apologize for the last 10 years, and the nice thing they could to is attach an asterisk to the last 11 seasons accepting the blame for the quality and asking the episodes be ignored when considering the series as a whole, the nicer thing they could do is rename the last 11 seasons so that episodes from these seasons wouldn't be included in any future Simpsons guides/books/etc., and the nicest thing they could possibly do is gather every last copy of all episodes produced since the turn of this century and destroy them.

I'm not sure if Cowboy Bebop counts as a "cartoon", since it's meant for adults, but then again half the options on this list are for adults, so I vote other as in Cowboy Bebop. If you haven't seen it, you haven't seen the best show ever made.

I agree that SpongeBob is more intelligent than people may give it credit for!
I used to watch a lot of Power Puff Girls/Dexter's Laboratory/Cow and Chicken/Two Stupid Dogs/Captain Planet/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
But out of that list, SpongeBob SquarePants is the best. The Simpsons used to be brilliant, but it's become a bit of a joke (not the good kind, either) lately. The new episodes are terrible! But up to about series 13 it was ace.

Did you intentionally leave out Looney Toons and South Park? Because I guarantee you those are where the majority of the 'other' votes are going to. Makes for a very unfair poll, if you ask me. Nobody in their right mind would choose Star Wars Droids or Star Wars Ewoks over the other stuff you've listed, here. And plenty of other options I don't even recognize. How could you make room for such sub-par shows on the poll but leave out two undeniable masterworks?

I just watched some Ren & Stimpy today. Powdered Toast Man, to be exact, which features the voice talents of our very own Frank Zappa as the pope
