Subject: Exciting News: New sister site for METAL online !

Hi all , This is M@X, your dedicated webmaster and admin I am very excited to share this important news with you. Based on the success of PA and the fact that I needed to set direction for my professional career, I have decided to play it big with PA and make this music site part of my professional and personal life. That decision motivated me a couple of months ago, to create more sites like PA and manage them. The plan is to create and manage sites like PA in the following music styles: Prog, Metal, Jazz, Classical and I have in mind to extend my projects to online community about books, TV shows, movies. So, working with Graphix (PA Admin and close friend), we mixed our ideas and he put in place a new music site very similar in features to http://progarchives.com/ - Progarchives.com but entirely new technologically. And this new site platform will be the future PA's - that is the plan. So the first site in the new family to go online is http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/ - www.MetalMusicArchives.com , a PA-like site about METAL music. It's been online since 3 weeks only. Since PA is covering 3 big sub-genres of METAL, I though that some PA members might be interested in it. We are looking to get active members and collaborators "à la http://progarchives.com/ - Progarchives.com " to help us managing the community and content. The content (discography) is currently set to update by itself with http://musicbrainz.org/ - MusicBrainz.org (thanks to Phil for programming this stuff !!) So basically the admins/collabs at http://metalmusicarchives.com/ - MetalMusicArchives.com would need to work mostly on: new bands, DVDs and bands classifications, forums animation/moderation, reviews/shouts moderation and global quality of the site, working closely with Graphix and me. So if you are interested in Metal music, check it out, or better, participate and collaborate to help us take the same lead in METAL music as PA did with PROG music: #1. We also offers multiple ways to stay connected with the site updates: Cool news, their is also a "Monthly Gift Giveaway" running Again the URL is http://www.metalmusicarchives.com - http://www.metalmusicarchives.com Prog On ! Ibidem, mailto:M@x - M@x ... great news... same question... can it be the same reviews for both sites or we have to make different for each site?

Thanks all for the kind words.
And yes Marty, you can post all your reviews and I invite others to do the same also. The more reviews you guys post (or shouts, ratings, other collaboration) will increase your chance of winning in the MMA monthly giveaway ! Good luck to all.
Enjoy MMA ( metal music archives ) , not the MARTIAL ARTS ;-)

Joke: Let's make Martial Arts Archives then
Consideration: This can also bring attention to site, as it will boost google tools (search ones) Kind words: OK Max, I'll consider it. For now, I have unfinished work here (adding Czech bands). After I'll finish it, I can join here too. But I know that more people will do it for me while I'm out. After all, there is more Metal Heads than one may think :-) This page will please many people.

Sounds like a cool idea. I'll be interested in this and the jazz site as well. I'm always looking for more resources to expand my music tastes and library, and if they are as helpful as PA have been, I'll thoroughly enjoy these new sites.
I've been listening to metal music much since I was 12 or 13, so I'll certainly consider joining that community as well as sticking around here.
Now off to look at the site!

Is it me or isn´t the Google custom search missing from the frontpage? I use that feature a lot on PA and I expect to do the same on the new site. Will you add that feature mailto:M@X - M@X ?
Oh and why isn´t there a specific grindcore sub? It´s a rather large sub. I saw a band like Pig Destroyer was labelled death metal. That´s not really a good description of their music. The bio even states that Pig Destroyer is a grindcore act.
Other than that the site looks great

I noticed that there´s a metalcore sub but not a deathcore sub. So I´d like to suggest a Deathcore sub and well also a Hardcore sub. I realise that Hardcore is rooted in punk and punk isn´t exactly metal but there are many hardcore artists that blend metal elements into their sound. Take Biohazard or Hatebreed for example.

Maybe just expand the Traditional Heavy Metal sub and call it Traditional Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Bands like AC/DC and Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin would fit better in a genre like that IMO.

Will all bios and added albums from the three metal subs automatically be transfered to MMA or will we have to move all the work we´ve done here to MMA manually over time? ( I´m a technical amateur, so please bear with me if my questions seem silly)

Great news Max - best of luck with the new sister site.
I look forward to the forum arguments Instead of 'that isn't metal, it's prog!', are we to get the 'that isn't prog, it's metal!' arguments??
[edit]
I also look forward to a huge argument when Robbie Williams is suggested for Metal-Related, as he used to play a thrash version of 'Back For Good' as an encore

The name escapes me now, but there's also a case of a hardcore christian pop/gosepl artist that made an album covering hard rock and metal tunes from a few years ago ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion
Maybe later, since we'd like to focus on mainstream metal genre now and when the credibility increase + visitors we might go with bordering subgenres.

Should be done quite automatically.

Well I was a bit out of breath after reading that novel about Rush's 2112 album. Let me get something straight. I haven't written that many metal reviews but there are a few I'm proud of such as my Black Sabbath Paranoid review and my Rush Hemispheres review. Is all that going to be transfered over to this new site? I mean I know we don't get paid for writing these reviews but at least I'd like to keep track of the sh*t I've written good or bad.

Ian, you can copy and paste your reviews to the new site once you've registered. I did so with a couple of my Blue Oyster Cult reviews, and will definitely continue with the other metal-related reviews I have written so far.

That's not what I meant. What I meant was is Max going to remove our metal reviews from PA and stick them on this new site? I would rather that my reviews stay on PA. I'm not a big metal freak but I like some of it.

Have you thought about how to handle redundancy? If the new metal website has a section for Progressive Metal, this problem will inevitably arise.

I think that's not a problem because our reviews here are made to rate it in prog ways as the other site has different rules, so we have to edit it a little bit to make accurate reviews... that's what I'm doing down there... all references to prog "insides" are taken away...

While this MusicBrainz thing saves a lot of effort adding endless amounts of albums, it makes a lot of unnecessary additions as well. For example the Metallica discography is a terrible mess of unofficial releases, duplicates and other weird things. Should we report these things (noticed some mistakes with Judas Priest as well, haven't dared to check others out yet) or is there enough work already with getting the whole site off the ground?
