Anyone else seen this?..July 25th..ELP and some of (those who aren't playing on the Heavy Metalish Saturday) ...Marillion, Argent, Focus, Pendragon, The Reasoning, Asia, Wishbone Ash, Gary Moore,..at last, a big scale Prog (ish) festival in the UK!. OK...It'd be nice to see some more adventurous stuff, but hats off to the organisers..I'll be there

I've ordered my ticket for the Sunday, sadly I made the wild assumption that, as ZZ Top and ELP were the only acts listed on specific days, everyone else was playing both days. There's nothing on the High Voltage web site to tell you who's playing which day - until you delve into the forum, that is. It transpires that Transatlantic (who I really wanted to see) are playing the Saturday ().
It seems the only way to find out who's playing which day is to check the artists' own web sites. If I get any info, I'll post it here.

This appears to be the current situation -
Saturday
Classic The Answer, Foreigner, Gary Moore, Heaven and Hell (on immediately before ZZ Top), ZZ Top (headlining)
Prog Touchstone (opening), Pendragon, Transatlantic (headlining)
Sunday
Classic Bachman Turner, Quireboys, Joe Bonamassa, UFO, ELP (headlining)
Prog Wishbone Ash, Steve Hackett, The Reasoning, Marillion (headlining)
Metal
Venom, Down (headlining)
Don’t Know Which Day
Classic The Union
Prog Argent, Focus, Magnum, Uriah Heep, Asia (but rumoured to be Saturday, as otherwise Carl Palmer will have to play in both Asia & ELP on Sunday), Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa
Metal Black Label Society, Clutch (but roumoured to be Sunday)
|

we need Uriah Heep and Magnum on Saturday - that would motivate me to attend

Interesting. Interesting. If Focus end up bein' on Sunday, it may become possible for me to only buy a one day ticket. Asia, Transatlantik, Pendragon and the Answer were my sideline affairs.
But then again, would it really be proper to miss them?

A bunch of new names for the Metal stage has just been announced. High on Fire, Audrey Horne, New Device, Lethargy and Orange Goblin. Don't really know any of them except for Orange Goblin...
On March 31st they will announce the very special guests for the prog stage, fingers crossed for Camel!

There's lots of new bands being announced but still no sign of a definite list of who's playing what day and when.
Also, apparently Mott the Hoople have been advertised in Record Collector as a joint headliner on Sunday but there's no mention of this on the High Voltage web site.

I think we're going to have to wait til 31st March for a proper definitive list... as someone else rightly said, this is when they're apparently going to make a "huge announcement" about new act for the Prog stage!

I've ordered my ticket for the Sunday.
I'm a bit p*ssed off that there is no official running order - they must know by now who's playing when. Some of the information is available on the individual bands websites but you have to go into the High Voltage forum to find out any more.

That's f***ing infuriating. The organisers are right on the money here. They know this market, and they know that Transatlantic and Opeth are going to be a big draw for many people who also want to see ELP. They want your money for both days. Arseholes!
I've not bought my ticket yet, but now I'm sure what to do. I want to see ELP, but I prefer Opeth, but I've seen Opeth, and haven't seen ELP!! I was hoping to go with Alan, but he can only go Sunday...
Alan, have the organisrors confirmed what other prog acts are on Sunday??

Andy
all I know is what's on the forum on the High Voltage site
Sunday
Classic Bachman Turner, Quireboys, Joe Bonamassa, UFO, ELP (headlining)
Prog Wishbone Ash, Steve Hackett, The Reasoning, Magnum, Focus, Uriah Heep, Argent (on immediately before Marillion), Marillion (headlining)
Metal
Audrey Horne, Clutch, Venom, Down (headlining)
Still a pretty good prog line up but I'm gutted about Transatlantic and Opeth - I've already ordered my ticket for Sunday. I could have gone Saturday but I don't really want to go both days. It's annoying that they won't release a schedule. They're obviously doing this to try and sell more weekend tickets but don't they realise that people are holding off buying tickets until they know the full lineup? Knobheads.
PS - just seen an update in the forum. Apparently Marillion's website says they're playing Saturday!!! If that's true, then who out of them, Transatlantic and Opeth are headlining?
|
Posted By: chopper
Date Posted: April 09 2010 at 07:18
Ignore previous comment about Marillion - their website has them down as playing Sunday 25th.
|
Posted By: Blacksword
Date Posted: April 09 2010 at 07:27
If Marillion are headlining on the prog stage and ELP on the classic stage, then I guess that means we cant see both, unless the organisors use their common sense and ensure that one stage wraps up before the other, or they have a side by side twin stage set up like the old Reading festival.
Oh, and Christ alive, Venom?? The Quireboys??? They should be in the comedy tent!
I'm toying with the idea of going both days now. I dont want to miss Opeth. I've already issed out on their Royal Albert Hall show. I;d like to see Transatlantic too. If I decide to only go one day, it will be the Sunday, so I'll let you know what I'm doing, Alan.

This is the response I got.
"The full line ups split by day will be announced on 26th April. Please keep checking our website. Also a program with stage times will be available on site on the days of the event."
So it sounds like we won't know what time bands are on until the day. And they didn't respond to my question about whether you can swap days because you can't find out who's onwhen.
|

That's such a joke... 26th April?! How ridiculous. It's a shame everything has to be so money-grabbing, especially for just wanting to appreciate good music!
|
Posted By: Blacksword
Date Posted: April 12 2010 at 09:24
Why the 26th of April? What's so special about that day? This festival has been organised for bloody ages, they know perfectly well who's playing when, and have done for ages.

I think it's called "making everyone hang on as long as possible in the hope that they will give up waiting and buy weekend tickets".
I emailed them to get that date and I did mention that I know of at least 5 people who are holding off buying tickets until the full line-up and schedule is announced. They didn't comment on this.
As Andy says, they must know who's playing when.

I was told it would be announced today (by someone from the High Voltage web site) and the ad in Classic Rock has a definite split of names between the 2 days. However it wouldn't come as a massive surprise if this was still incorrect.

I think you're right. They failed to realise that many people just held off buying a ticket until the line-ups were announced. I emailed this suggestion to them but got no response.

Passing by and have to say this festival has become a bloody farce, is this being organised an discraced directors from the former Lehmans bank? It has become a money grabbing exercise and what once started out as a fabulous dream event with a terrific lineup has become a sham. Ridiculous price for merchandise, drinks, and pissing around with the line up for each day has left a sour taste. whatever happened to the dream of IoW 1970, a 'free' concert when ELP fired their cannons for the first time. If they do fire cannons this time hope they hit the f**kers who are raking in all the money.

There is a heck of a lot of people raking in money on prog rock by inflating their prices.......... But wait a minute !!! Make that one company raking in money by inflating their magazine and festival fees. I don't mind paying for something. What I do object against is paying well over the odds to one company whose profit margins is far higher than most other businesses operates with.

Not neccesarily disputing this, but how do you know what their profit margins are?

By comparing the supplier prices and business rates.

Prove it with some hard facts and figures (not estimated)
Going to miss out on a brilliant experience that probably won't be repeated. Nose -cut -spite -face

Just noticed on the High Voltage forum that there is no re-admission to this event. Even with the super-duper high tech bar-coded wristbands, if you leave the park you can't get back in again.
Far be it for me to suggest that this is to stop people nipping out for a pint or some food at a more reasonable price.

At the least this is very annoying at the worst bordeline infringement of human rights in my view. I really wonder if this is enforceable and what if people understandably don't want to use the toilet facilities as provided. I can see this causing quite a stink (I'll get my coat )

Okay I was looking at the Drink prices and most are 2.50 or 4.00 British pounds if I read that correctly. That correlates to roughly $3.60 and 5.50 American. I will tell you yesterday i was at a major league Baseball Stadium and a 12 oz beer was $7.50 or 5.15 British pounds. Seems like a bargain to me what your festival is charging. A mixed drink was $9.00 or 6.2 BP. We bought 3 hot dogs and 1 kids meal and a pretzel with two small beers and two sodas and it was $40.00. or 28.50 British Pounds!

From High Voltage's Facebook page:
Heaven & Hell have confirmed they are returning to High Voltage Festival with guest vocalists Glenn Hughes and Jorn Lande on Sat 24th July 2010 to perform an exclusive 'Tribute To Ronnie James Dio'. This will be an unmissable emotional tribute to a true rock legend that High Voltage are honoured to be associated with |
A fitting tribute to RJD & what will probably be Heaven & Hell/Black Sabbath's (whichever) last show.

Considering beer is over £3 a pint in most London pubs, £4 is about what you'd expect at something like this. I just resent the fact that you can't even take a bottle of water in. I'm going smuggle in Mars Bars sellotaped to my legs.

Sounds good, shame I'm going on Sunday.
Talking of Heaven and Hell, I quote from the BBC website today
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment_and_arts/10316731.stm - "Iommi won best album for solo release The Devil You Know. " Solo?

Jim posted that Opeth were replaced by BigElf, but the HV website still lists Opeth, so I'm assuming (hoping) that Opeth are still playing. I like BigElf, but would rather see Opeth!
See you there Alan..

I think he just meant they had swapped days and stages - they were originally on the prog stage on Saturday.
I'm worried about how they're going to get 30,000 people through the gates (searching them on the way in) in time for the first band at 12:20.
