2 collections of FZ guitar solos, the first covering the mid to late 70s and the second the late 70s to mid 80s. If you know both, which do you prefer and why?

Hmmmm... I think I'll go with Guitar; the compositions are stronger and I always viewed that as his ultimate "guitar" album.

Though the Shut Up series of albums was quite good as well.

Out of his guitar albums, I  prefer Trance-Fusion since it features the 1988 band. Plus, it comes in at a manageable sixty one minutes.

Shut Up And Play Your Guitar.

Guitar is pretty lengthy and is honestly a bit difficult to sit through. Some nice tunes on that one though. Also, the SUAPYG series feels less like a collection of guitar solos, if that makes sense.

I really wish I had "Guitar". It would complete my FZ collection!

Guitar is wonderful through and through.

The Shut Up series has some very strong material, but not as consistent as Guitar.

I agree on the second account about Shut Up being less like a collection of guitar solos. Still, I prefer GuitarWink

I think these albums also show some of the strengths of his backing musicians - Vinnie Colaiuta and Warrren Cucurullo are both on fire on Shut Up... , while Guitar extensively features the Chad Wackerman/Scott Thunes rhythm section - although on both albums there is some crossover in terms of featured musicians.

While irrelevant to this topic, I've always felt Chunga's Revenge showcased some very good guitar work.

Of the 2 listed, deffo Guitar, more concise solos than Shut Up...., but if it was there I'd vote for Trance Fusion myslef.

The one that has "guitar" in the title because it has guitar in the title. Tongue
