are a very young band in Melbourne, Australia who are writing and
playing some very, very exciting material. I saw them play last night
at the Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne's central business district, and
they fully rocked. The 40minute+ set was made up of 6 songs around the
6-7 minute mark in length, 5 of their own compositions and a
scintillating cover of Opeth's "Ending Credits" from "Damnation", the
album Steve Wislon worked on with them. Prog metal is a
genre that can very easily fall into the trap of musicianship
histrionics, but these lads understand phrasing, changes of pace and
the value of deft touch. Which isn't to say their musicianship isn't
fabulous, because it is. They run a 2 guitar, bass, keyboards, drums
line up that is intsrumental (no vocalist, though the drummer does
voice) and whose sound probably accords with OSI, Liquid Tension
Experiment and Symphony X. I really suggest people hit their MySpace
page and give them a listen. And if the lads from PT
haven't locked in a support band for Melbourne (and maybe Sydney and
Brisbane) for their upcoming tour, they couldnae do better than The
Mirrored Truth. Certainly, philosophically they are a great match, and
musically they would be a great addition to the show.
