Topic: Can't Review

Subject: Can't Review
Date Posted: December 19 2009 at 15:51
I attempted to submit a review of Arena - The Visitor and received a message that a rating was already submitted by my IP address or email.

I only joined the site yesterday. If it's my IP, can that be reset? It must have been from a previous site member.

Thanks!

Did you give the album a rating before writing/submitting your review?

I filled in the little checkcircle, but I didn't press the 'submit' button until the box was full of text.

Oh, and it's not showing up in my review list.

Here's the exact error message. It comes up on a black screen after I try to submit:

A ratings/reviews from this IP/Email already exist in our database. You can update your previous reviews or rating instead.

Someone must have posted a review/rating from your computer before. Do you have another PA member in your house?

Nope. The kids are too young and the missus doesn't even like that much prog.

I'm thinking it's the IP. I've only had it for three years or so. I'm thinking some member had the same one in the past and dropped their account with my ISP and they recycled the IP with me.

We'll need an admin to deal with this issue.  I'll alert them to the problem.

Hmmm.... one last test then I'll have to pass it upstairs to mailto:M@X - M@X

Could you rate this album please: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=14503 - http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=14503  - doesn't matter what you give it - if successful I'll delete the rating anyway.

I attempted to give it a three star rating, but received the same error message:

^ That album had zero ratings so the error message is lying. Definitely a job for M@X nothing more I can do but pass the fault on to him, sorry.

...oh - could you try rating Arena from the IP you were using on the 17th (I assume you won't be able to do that until Monday Wink) ... if that fails then it must be something about the email address.

I think my IP is shuffled around by my router's firewall, so I don't believe I get to choose the exact address. It's never really come up before.Embarrassed

I could ask Verizon if it's possible...

Not that it really matters but I submitted the 821st review for ITCOTCK because I listened to it for the first time in eons last night and it appears as being posted on Saturday Dec. 19 rather than today Sunday Dec. 20. I don't know how the crazy PA computer correlates time zones but I posted it at about 3:00 PM DST in Montréal.

Just a heads up that I was getting the same issue. The new check that was put in seems to check for e-mail address, but I didn't have one set, so it was failing out because someone else with an e-mail address of '' had already posted a review. I added one to my forum profile and my review is now up and live.

Just for the record, I've had exactly the same problem.  I'm now going to go and post the review I did to see if it's fixed and then come back and let you know.  Fingers crossed.

Huzzah!  It worked.  So, if anyone's interested, I've just posted my first review for Echolyn's 'The End Is Beautiful'.  I'm sure I'll much more to say going forward and I'm really rather excited.

When I press SUBMIT the screen turns white and something about ratings and IP addresses comes up and I don't understand it! P.S. I did a successful review of Romantic Warrior last night, so this is just weird... Confused

Seen it Robert and already commented (even it's more like PM than actual comment).

Simon Says new sounds quite good to me. Their previous releases are also worth getting (Marty approved)

-Good to hear that problems are over (for now) and we can post again (honestly, I didn't mentioned errors)

Yes, I saw your review of this album yesterday.

I've actually been working on mine for months.  Feels good to have it done!  LOL

I have already have had this problem a few months ago. Can someone sort this out, please? I can still PM with no problem.

Best regards,

Hey, this one was tricky, never had this (kind) before:

I wrote, let's say 250 words for Crucible - Tall Tales, clicked on 5-star rating (by my opinion, they deserve it), it showed me the evil message of how bad it is to overuse 5-star rating and then, review form was blank.

I've tried to click on it more times, even choose different stars, but nothing happened.

Is it punishment for using 5-star ? :- (

hehe, just kidding.

I've complained and complained about this. I just lost another review this morning because I get a message that says time expired. Another hour down the toilet. This one was rather important too. Why can't this be fixed. I often reference sources while I'm writing reviews and have to dig out a book check a recording or go to another site.

I've lost count of how many reviews I've lost this way and many have been for unreviewed albums. Writing a review is like playing the lottery.

I lose reviews often - the time expiredmessage is a gut wrenching thing to see after spending an hour on a review. i am terrified of losing revirews so now i put them straight in from word so at least i know if it doesnt work i can go back and paste it back in again.\\\

another thng i am in the habit of doing now is copying my review from the PA sheet before hitting submit - then if it doesnt work i can just paste it in again. i dont lose reviews now.

it normally happens when computer is getting slow due to using too much bandwidth so that effects it for me

Will re-check, and will try to implement some kind of protection to prevent the "lost" of review when this happen.
